just purchased a hp/compaq nx7000, any reviews? - Page 3

So this is basically a nice review of it compared to a couple of other machines. Though the ACER beat the compaq it is worth remembering that the acer had a 5400 RPM disk V the 4200 RPM in the compaq - also worth remembering is the fact that the compaq offers the lovely WUXGA screen compared to the SXGA on the Acer. Lastly and not leastly the compaq is about half the price right now.

What do you expect from a digital camera image ? Unless his camera was very very still and of a decent quality its not gonna look great - havign seen the screen in BestBuy - I can assure you its top notch. Gad Im turning into a compaq salesman - waiting for the goddamn M10P is so frustrating ....

o and the 4200 blows away the 9200 i believe, but apparently it sacrifices quality for speed

The Compaq X1000 is not a bad deal for a Pentium M machine. Everyone is sitting around and waiting for the new Sager models, and that is fine. Hopefully they will meet expectations. I just orderd the Compaq from hpshopping.com and have 30 days to use it from the date I receive it. If the new 5680 is too expensive or doesn't have what they said it would have (like the wide andgle screen), then I've made a good choice with all of the discounts floating around. If the 5680 is right on par, then I'll order that and send the Compaq back. It's worth the $20 investment in return shipping. Just my 2 cents.

They don't charge a restocking fee. I called and asked. It also doesn't mention it on the website.

Hi Guys,

I've been debating on a few options for the x1000.

1. What's the difference between the WSXGA and WUXGA besides the 1680x1050 and 1920x1200 difference in resolution? Is it worth spending the extra $100 to go from WXGA to WUXGA?

2. What's the performance difference between 1.5Ghz and 1.7Ghz? Is it worth spending and extra $350 to upgrade to 1.7Ghz?

3. Is it worth spending the extra $50 to go from a 60gig 4200rpm to 5400rpm?

4. Does anyone have any opinion on gaming on a 15.4" widescreen?

I just went to BestBuy today to take a look at a eMachine laptop with 15.4" screen. It seems wider, but smaller in height then a 15". What are you thoughts on 15.4" compared to 15"?

I've read on many review sites that a 1.5Ghz Centrino is = to 1Ghz Pentium 4M. This would mean that a 1.6Ghz Centrino performs at a speed of a 2.6Ghz P4. Is there any truth in this?

Anyway...help me decide before this 10% discount is gone.

1. I can't decide either what I would choose. WUXGA is great for photshop, but I see trouble using it for Word.
I'm using a 19" at 1280x1024

2. 1.6GHz is the max I would go. That's $150 more. I think $350 is not worth it.

3. I'll take the 5400 rpm when you are using programs that would make extensive use of the HD like PS.

4. Don't do any gaming.

Actually, I bought the emachine a few weeks ago to check it out, but returned it because it was a little bit too slow performance wise. I thought the screen was decent. It was a WXGA.

Sorry, can't follow your calculation regarding the 1.5 GHz, 1 GHz and 2.66 GHz

Why would you not do any gaming? - the card is definately capable of it.

Hey Outsider, what do I need to do to get the 5% student discount?
hpshopping has a link on the main page that says academic program or something. you give them your school, contact info, and they probably need a .edu adress too.
at the same time you could configure an Inspiron 8500 with 2.4 GHz, WUXGA screen for aprox. the same amount and same specs. And it has the option for a second HD, docking station etc....

What's better, a P 1.6 M or the Inspiron 8500 with 2.4 GHz.....?
the 1.6m is if its a centrino, double the frickin cache, and the dell 8500 is definitely more, the vid card isnt as good, i tried to config it to the same as a x7000 and i couldnt get it

o and i went to compusa and they had an x1000 and it was totally AWESOME, i loved everything about it, all the more reason to buy an x7000 for 100 bucks more online
