1. Me too. But can't decide if I should go with WSXGA or WUXGA (if I go ahead at all. Sager looks really great, but the battery life scares me)

2. When does the 10 % coupon expire?

3. Are there any stores in Manhattan that have the x1000 or the HP on display?
Coupon expires 7/17/03 - Chances are the CompUSA at the corner of like 58th and 9th I think has one on display - they are fairly large.(sorry cant remember exact location 6 years in manhattan and I still suck at street locations) . Go for the WUXGA - 150 bucks is worth it - cut back on RAM if you like and buy from crucial or someone.

PS: Buy me one while your at it.

"Hello dear no honestly this is a good deal ... "

Initially I couldn't decide on WSXGA vs WUXGA either. But then, I will never run a resolution at 1920x1200 because it will be too small to see anything, so I decided to save the $150 and spend it on other things like 5400rpm hdd or faster cpu.

As for Sager, nice piece of hardware, but heats up too much and battery life sucks. Pluse it weights alot. I'm going for the all around laptop as supposed to a laptop that isn't very mobile and heats up.

Anyway...good luck with yours.

The WXGA is fine, the wide screen aspect will make up for the large font compare to WUxGA. I tested the battery last night after fully drained and recharged. It ran from the dvdrom the full Crouching tiger hidden dragon dvd for 2 hours and still had 50% left over. My returned 600M lasted 1 hour 40min on one battery, couldn't even finish the dvd. I expect battery life to be about 4hour plugged into ethernet and mp3playing in the background, normal webbrowsing and stuff. The thing I really like is due to the 512mb of ram, the processor does not clock to full speed all the time, for example, my 600M almost all of the time at 1.3gig, but this machine mostly stay at 700 and was still more responsive and not sluggish at all. It only clocked to 1.4 when playing dvd or gaming full screen. The only thing I noticed is that there is no powerplay tab inside the advanced video config. So I wouldn't know if powerplay is running. the 600M had the powerplay tab and still the battery didn't last very long. So if I can get powerplay the nx7000 will probably last longer. Oh and I haven't got time to do benchmark because I've been so busy working, will do some later. And the screen is magnificent, it's just my digital camera, it's really old so don't expect kodiak quality! I do notice one really annoying dead pixel smack dab in the middle top of the screen, but I can't do anything about it since it's just one. darn it!

1 Thanks for the info on the battery life! Looks great!

2. Does the DVD/CDRW come in a modular or fixed bay setting?

3. How would I get the DVD/CDRW drive region free? I am totally p... about this region code thing. I was able to buy a region free player for my TV, but they create all the hazzle with the comp. DVD drives. A couple of years ago I could get a firmware patch for my DVD drive. Are there any other options nowadays?

the dvd/rw is fixed bay i believe. this is what pissed me off as with all the excitement i forgot to check my order and it was shipped to me only with dvd no rw. But oh well, I'll just go out and buy an external one or something. Everything is p2p and internet nowaday anyway, I haven't burn a cd in like half a year lol. I don't do that much gaming. the only thing i play is starcraft and diablo2. in d2 at 800x600 wide screen is excellent. I get on average 60fps AA. and the graphic is so niceeeeeee. i ran sisoft sandra and notice that the laptop/portable power profile got low score compare to other centrino system tested by tomshardware and I figured out why. This system clock to 600mhz when running laptop/portable while testing with sisoft sandra. I don't know why it didn't clock to full speed as sisoft could be considered a high performance required software. When I put it to always one the score was comparable to 1.4 centrino system outthere if not higher. I don't have time to post score of pictures as today is friday and i'm going out of town for the weekend. Gonna test out my wifi at starbucks or something. Will be back with more!
DId anyone find out about the powerplay thing for this system? because it's not anywhere in the advanced display property, I don't think it's enabled.
can u take a good pic or 2 of it running diable 2?
Hrmm I was really hoping for better speeds than that althought Diablo II is not exactly a good test for 3d performance - any chance you could crank up the UT2003 demo or something? Also have you got the default drivers loaded or did you go and get the new ones?

where do i go to get ut2k3 demo? and yes I have the default driver d/led from hp driver section 7.57 i believe. and no powerplay tab.
unrealtournament2003.com . UT2003 is a graphics intensive little bugger especially when AA/AF so its a good test - try it in 1024x768 first. Also when you feel more comfortable with the machine you might try overclocking the GPU

i heard the 9200 gets really hot with only slight overclock, but im going to upgrade to the 9600pro in a few months because they are both flexfit
post #75 of 157

You are saying it would be possible to upgrade the x1000 to the 9600pro?
hmm.... what now?

I just configured an Inspiron 8500

P4M 2.4 GHz
15.4 WSXGA
256 MB (min.)
64 MB NVIDIA 4200
DVD/CDRW
40 GB HD 4200 rpm

= $1797

- $350 MIR

= $1447

The Inspiron offers easier future upgrade possibility than the x1000 with the modular optical bay (upgrade to DVDwriter) and bay for 2nd HD. And you could get a docking station.

If I only could find a 10% off coupon....

I just saw the x1000 at CompUSA. Nice screen. Not as good as the Dell, but good. Looks nice, but everything is plastic, not an aluminum lid.

Clueless ....

i d/lded the demo and played around and I must say the graphic is impressive, I don't know how to run script or show the fps but it's very fast I think in the 60fps zone. If anyone can show me how to run a test with fps thing on then I will report the score.

get the hell out of here - damn its looking better and better all the time
