any reviews on that thing though? for $60, i'd totally jump.

edit: reviews here http://secure.newegg.com/app/Custrat...tem=14-127-989

hmmm, 2 good reviews, 2 bad ones. i hate that! I think one of the reviews was a user problem instead of a hardware problem. If you get it from newegg, at least you can return it if you have a problem, might be worth a shot.

edit: another review http://www.comp-buyer.co.uk/buyer/re...20-tv-box.html

sound like the video quality might be a bit low, but that seems to be pretty constant regarding these kinds of tuners.

I've seen some good reviews on the Compro VideoMate Live, you might want to check that out instead.

at newegg, a few different models are available, from $51 to $149

It looks like AverMedia is coming out with a PC Card TV Tuner.

I use their USB 2.0 300 model and it works great. I may consider switching to this card once available to have it internal in the system.

i have a Dazzle which is a usb capture device. i bought it for my desktop a long time ago. i think i'm gonna try it on my laptop. i'll let you know how it goes

whoa, a pcmcia tv tuner huh? very very nice.

would be even nice if they had it in mini-pci slot, but that would be a lot to ask for.

oh and if you return to newegg btw, they don't pay your shipping and charge a 15% restocking fee. if you're paying $65 for a tv tuner here, you'd have to pay $4 shipping and $8-$9 restocking fee.

man i dont know what to do.. i guess i'll just wait right now. none of the usb 2.0 tv tuners have impressive reviews.

I've done a quick review of the PC Card tuner/capture card here:

I have an MSI VOX. They advertise MP4, but if it is available, I can't find it. It is well made, very compact and the software package that comes with it is great. As far as quality, I probably would not use it as my everyday TV, but I have only tested it with my Fujitsu 5020D connected to an antenna trying to pick up channels in Baghdad. As you might expect, the dial was pretty empty. I did connect it to a VCR to digitize some tapes of the Master's. It was adequate quality. If this is for use on the road, I wouldn't hesitate. If this is for home/everyday use and you have the $$, I would get a Hauppauge WinTV PVR USB2. I have 4 of them and am very pleased. Good luck.

Just got one (Hauppauge WinTV PVR USB2) from Circuit City, $99.99 after rebate, and so far, so good. It has a built in MPEG encoder and FM tuner. I've been recording Twilight Zone Marathon today and saving to an external USB drive at 12 Mbps VBR and haven't seen a glitch yet. Gonna try it with Video tape as a source tomorrow.

I would recommend doing what the first reply said, use the search option. I wrote a post like this about a year ago, so I know there is at least one on here if they haven't removed it.
