Problem With Compaq Armada M700

Ok, i got a Compaq Armada M700 last christmas from eBay.. now, shortly afterwards i dropped the damn slippery thing and the screen shattered. 3 months later, having received the laptop back from the seller, with a brand new screen fitted. Worked fine up till a couple of months ago. If u move the screen to certain positions, evrythin thats supposed to b black goes green or has green dots going down it (like the matrix ) Now i've deduced that the problem is the screen, not the graphics card, as plugging in an external monitor does not yield the same results. If i press the joint between the screen and keyboard section of the notebook on the left hand side, it temporarily fixes the problem. There are screws on either side of this joint, should i tighten/loosen them?

Specs:
Pentium III ~500MHz
8MB ATi Rage Mobility G/C
192 MB RAM
10GB Hard Drive (about 2GB free)
(I don't see how these affect it but i put them there jus in case)

- _|/\\//\\/\//\(,

PS: the notebook is still use-able as i am using it right now. Another thing is, the "green screen" as i call it occurs at startup sometimes (not only in windows)
Any help would be appreciated.

Pretty good chance they got in a hurry and didnt tape the cable to the back of the LCD. Opening and closing the lid will make it pull out partially causing this symptom.. Just resaet and tape down w/ clear scotch, 1 strip'll do.

i had come across same problem with my m700, it was a faulty screen and the sticky tape worked for a few months... then i bought a new screen off ebay and installed it myself..

You have to pull the screen bezel and assy apart.. (With the machine off and battery out). Pop the LCD out slightly, And reseat or push in the cable on the back of the screen. (Not the two wire plugin, These are backlight). When you get it seated tape it down so it cant be pulled out again.

Check the HP site for service manuals. They are pretty good about writing good ones and making them avialable to the customer through the support section-the same part of he site as you get the updated drivers.

Some of the low end computers that they buy off the Chinese manufactures and do no more than rebrand though will alot of the time have no associated service manual, but you could look at something similar as yours to get an idea.

I liked their service manuals because it was cook book like and describes every step, including hidden clips, and exact order, and helps you from doing more disassembly than is required.

GOOD LUCK!
