Hey all. I'm thinking of updating my catalyst drivers, so i'm wondering if anybody's recently updated using the mobility catalyst driver update tool. if so, have they gotten it so that it works on our 3790s straight up, or do we still have to go through a rigamarole? thanks in advance...

i've updated from the 6.8 to the 6.9 with no problems... but it's better to have the program to add resolutions near by...

Dig. Thanks as always, tmgp. i'm going to give it a try tonight or tomorrow morning.

Dammit. I downloaded the utility and just followed instructions to allow it to express install. it installed fine, but when I rebooted I got a scrambled screen. I tried Dase's refreshforce fix, but the radio button doesn't become clickable for me no matter which monitor i highlight. also, i don't see the word "active" anywhere on the refreshforce screen. tmgp - did you do an express install or custom? any particular order? what i'd give just to be able to update my video drivers with a couple clicks, like the other humans get to do...

EDIT:

alright - i've got it working using RefreshForce. I just wish I could get it to work without it, as I think RF is causing CTD for me in the BF 2142 demo...

EDIT II:

If anyone else is having trouble with BF 2142 crashing to desktop who's using refreshforce, just go to C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\My Documents\Battlefield 2142 Demo\Profiles\Default

and open the Video.con using notepad

In notepad change
VideoSettings.setResolution 800x600@60Hz

to

VideoSettings.setResolution 800x600@75Hz
then save it and close it out. it should start up no problem after that.

I'm putting this here just in case anyone ends up here via the notebookforums search function. Have fun!

hi there,

if you don't want to have any more troubles in games, just go to CATALYST Control Center -> Display Options and activate the 3D Refresh Rate Override. Just put Same as desktop or 75 Hz (I use same as desktop).

this is one of the big improvements of the new Catalyst Control Center for 75Hz LCD users like us

and leave that notepad alone

Major BIOS upgrade problem!! Please Help!!

Hi all,

Just trying to do a spot of fixing at home on my notebook while I'm stuck at home following being the victim a hit and run accident and a three week spell in hospital.

I've got a Clevo M37EW and have been having a lot of problems with various USB devices and my CD/DVD drive.

I'm a bit clueless re the USB issues but have tried most I can find on the internet re solutions however I am hoping that a BIOS update may help.

The other major problem is that doing the update is a real problem because of the issues with the CD/DVD drive.
I am also hoping this may be helped by a BIOS update too but getting there is a problem.

The drive is a Toshiba ODD-DVD SD-R6372 which I have noticed across the web is quite infamous for various issues. I have updated the firmware to 1732 but no real change.
Basically it will write discs but only read certain ones and in terms of reading bootable discs outside of windows - no chance!!

I'm on the verge of replacing it - which may or may not be a question someone might answer here as regarding what make /model would be compatable with this machine (I have a friend who is willing to install it but myself have no idea about swapping components in laptops) - but at the moment it means I cannot create a bootable cd to flash the BIOS and have no floppy drive on this machine - the funny thing is that the bootable discs it won't see at all during boot are totally readable within windows (XP SP2 Pro for infromations sake).

So...... is there any way you might suggest to allow me to flash the BIOS from within Windows? I am still on version 2.06 and am hoping the upgrade to 2.08 may at leat go some way to helping with some of the issues before I look at replacing hardware - being on crutches right now work is thin and money too so replacing more than necessary is not the way I'd like to go.

Mant thanks in advance to anyone offerring any advice on this.
Best Regards
Northwinds.

all the bios are stable, so i think that those are not bios related problems.

swapping the optical drive is easy, but you should try it on another laptop to check if the problem is on the drive or in your laptop, because if it works like you described, it doesn't even do the basics...
as for the usb, same think... not a bios problem... are you still on warranty? maybe rma would be the best for you!

A year out of warranty unfotunately - rma? - I don't have amother laptop to try it in but have read a lot of bad things about this drive on the net - can you suggest an appropriate replacement then? - preferably dual layer?
The BIos thing was really a last stab if there was a way of accessing it from windows......

How do you know what version of bios you have?

new catalyst and sound drivers
this is kind of random.. but, is it just the NP3790 that has a dedicated drivers section? if so, why is that? is it because it's the most popular sager notebook?

i was getting a little sentimental about my np3790 :X like what if someone stole it? would it be possible to buy another np3790? i thought they were discontinued or something..

anyway.. this forum and this thread rocks. thanks to everyone who keeps it updated.
