The cpu temps are the same around 72C IDLE!! When i did a spybot scan the cpu ran upto 82C!!!! Something is not right here
I have the same problem. I ended up calling the store which they got I got it from, in turn they called ASUS, and ASUS said it was alright.

ASUS is never really keen on doing anything about it... unless it's really screwed up.
I'm not the first to see such a high threshold for the fan... as I've said, my fan doesn't come on until 75 degrees and others have the same problem/issue as me. I doubt it's an issue regarding thermal compound... because that would not change the fact that the fan comes on at 75 degrees.

However, when I do get the time, I will take a look at the CPU and heatsink contact and make sure it's okay...

Hi AuroraS,

Did you get a chance to look at your cpu and heatsink? Are you still running very high TEMPS? I was told by the guy i bought my computer that if i openened the cpu i void the warranty so he's picking it up and bringing it back to have it looked at. Still running between 70-80C on idle. Got upto 90C once.

Yeh, did you solve your problem?
My surfing temp, according to probe, is 65 c.

I don't now if the cpu-fan i running, if it is, it's damn quit, can hear a subtle sound if I put my ear against the outlet.

same here but i'd kill for 65C

Sorry, I haven't had the time to open it up... but if we're all seeing similar temps (my surfing temp is ~62 degrees) then I'm assuming it's a notebook fan threshold problem.

They really need to fix this... hopefully a new BIOS may fix it in the near future.

Aurora and Guys,

Hi have the problem!!! I ask Asus and said that it is normal...
I ask them if get 98 C is normal?...
I can't play any game, FarCry for example, after few minutes of playing i get 98 C, and i stop inmediatly playing it... i turn off the laptop... And for your knowledge the Asus Notebook do not turn off your notebook...mine not turn off for example at temps like 98C...that suppose to have a security at high risk temps...(Well, Intel said in their page that the Pentium M processord should be running below 100ºC)

After 4 Days of testing i found that.

Same temps = 77 - 84 C with Plug in AC

- I test 3 different thermal compounds, including a AS5 (Same temps)

It is not a thermal compound problem, it did not make any difference, the thermal compound cannot make temps go down 20 or 30 Grades C.

- I run my laptop is open case, without keyboard in site. (Same temps)

I live the laptop open, to see if it make any difference, and it did not...only a couple of minutes more playing.

- I re-install a clean WinXP and install the ATI Drivers that came on cd.
(Same temps)

I suppose that Omega Drivers, are pushing the cpu, and no way...i did not.

- Try with Omega Drivers (Same temps)

I try the Omega Drivers again and get the same temps...

- I have only the following software installed...

- WinXP with SP2
- Install SpeedStichXP (With DynamicSwicth)
- Install Probe2
- Install PowerGear

Errors that i found:

- At 85 C my fan supposed to run all the time to estabilize the temps at low temps... (the fan perhaps turn on at 3000 RPM and some times at 4000 RPM) but the temps go down only 5 o 7 Degrees...

- My fan turn on at 75 and some times at 80 ºC

- That only way, that i explain it is that cpu fan, not turn on, al low temps, and it only turn on at highs temps, if you run intensive applications or games their require more power and the fan not make his job, the laptop generate the heat more faster that a cpu fan can desipate it... the filosofy is the same used in the cars...

I will try to explain...

Let us suppose that your car works at a temperature of 85 ºC, and that the Max temperature is 100 ºC... Your car will be prepared so that at the moment that exceeds the 85 Cs, automatically the cooling system will have to stabilize the temperature at its normal level. If there is some problem for example, that the fan not work or that works at few rpm, the cooling system will not have time to cool the water and automatically it begins to grow the temperature...

Searching in this forum, i found that Sager people has the same problem, and the problem was solved with a new bios...

You can check it at...

http://notebookforums.com/showthread.php?t=42498

As you can see.... It is a problem with Asus Notebooks, i supposed that it can be a Bios or Hardware failure...

I hope that, Asus can work on it...

Is returning the laptop an option? I have the 0205 Bios for M6Ne and I don't have any problems. This is the case with many other people on this forum.
Just to make sure - are you sure that you have the M6Ne 0205 BIOS and not the M6N (no e here) 0205 BIOS - these are different BIOS.
Also, even if you can't return the laptop I would INSIST and ask Asus to send the lappy to them to fix it. Do not take NO for an answer - these temps are far from normal.

Hi again,
I appreciate very much your help...
Well, i have this Bios installed M6N0205Ae.zip that i download from here

http://www.asus.com.tw/support/downl...Ne&Type=Latest

This file contains, 0205Ae.M6N that supose to be the last BIOS for the Asus M6Bne aka 0205...

Well, searching on the Web i found a new bios M6N0205Ge.zip inside i found this: 0205Ge.M6N

Look, that the first one have A and the last one G... I don`t know, which are the diferences between them... but i will try the G, that suppose to be newest.

I contact several times ASUS Support, all that they said is that this temps are ok... for me not...for me is not normal get temps like 95 C.

I can`t return my laptop, I buy it on USA and i live in South America, return cost me around 300 bucks...

Reading in different forums, i found that i'm not the only with this problem, for example in this site, AuroraS is another member with exact the same problem.

My problem can be perfectly corrected with a new Bios, because the bios is the only way that can control the cpu fan speed and temperature threshold.

For ASUS, my temps are normal, 84C or 90C for Asus is normal, and get 100C after playing FarCry for Asus is normal, for me they assume that have problems with certains notebooks, but they go away from this subject...and not give me any solution.

Rotel that bios you have is so old 0205 you have to go to the north American website to get the latest bios which is 0211.
Anyway, check yuor bios and see if you have the feature speedstep in power settings enabled. That seemed to be the problem with mine, it was disabled so the fan would not turn on when it was supposed to. It appears the the problem has been solved and i 'll have my notebook back tomorrow
check Here for the bios link page

SergesPlace, Are u sure that you have M6Bne? Sorry, but on American Website you can see that the lastest Bios for the M6Ne is the 0205 and 0211 for the M6N (not widescreen).

Check it out!!

http://usa.asus.com/support/download...Ne&Type=Latest

http://usa.asus.com/support/download...6N&Type=Latest

It possible that your problem was resolved activating the SpeedStep feature and not upgrading the Bios...
Please i need your help.. For this i need that you confirm if you have received your laptop with the Bios 0211 installed and not the 0205, when you have the laptop back, off course...
Maybe the Bios 0211 can resolve the problem.

Well i downloaded the bios 0205 that you posted and that didn't do anything. However, i had once noticed that the speedstep feature was disabled in the original bios 0204. When i installed 0205 that feature was set on auto. at neither time did i enabled that feature. When the techie looked at it he actually changed the motherboard and it was still running very hot. He said the fan was not working properly. He then discovered that the speedstep power saving feature was not enabled and that seem to be the problem. It nows seems to be performing normally which i'll confirm tomorrow. Yes i do have m6bne widescreen but my computer guy says the bios is upto 0211 there is no difference from the m6ne or bne except the bne is widescreen i'll know for sure when i get it back tomorrow

The "e" is the key. M6BNe and M6Ne are the same except for screen size. Both have ATI 9700. The M6BN and M6N are the same except for screen size and both have the ATI 9600. The "e" models are newer.

OK, maybe this will make it clear:
M6BNe - 15.4 widescreen, ati 9700
M6Ne - 15.1 non-widescreen, ati 9700
These two are the newer versions and use the same BIOS - latest version is 0205. The speedstep function was DISABLED in the 0203 but is ENABLED in the 0205 by DEFAULT.
M6BN - 15.4 widescreen, ati 9600
M6N - 15.1 non-widescreen, ati 9600
older version, chances are you won't find it being sold any more; use the same BIOS - latest version is 0211. Don't know the default speedstep setting.

I HAVE THE 0205 BIOS with my M6BNe.

What do you mean?
Maybe this - M6BNe/M6Ne use the same BIOS with 0205 being the latest version. M6BN/M6N use the same BIOS however it is a different one than the M6BNe/M6Ne use, and the latest version is 0211.
