100gig 7200 RPM HD is here. - Page 5

all--

i just noticed another user has a 80 gb toshiba 5400 rpm drive but with 16mb cache buffer.

how do you think that would compare with the 7200 rpm with 8 mb cache buffer speed wise??

i am looking for the biggest, fastest drive for dv transfer and encoding to dvd.

I have a post ofer in the review section called "post your atto scores" someone in there has a 16mb cache HDD.

It will lightly beat the 7k60 in small transfers, but not in the bigger ones. Plus the 7200RPM will have a faster feel I think. Either one is an improvment over the 4200rpm.

That was me with the Toshiba 80GB 5400RPM, 16MB Cache. I was not willing to give up 20 GB of disk space. This was the compromise. It definately feels faster than the 4200. An additional 768 MB of RAM didn't hurt, though!

I was astounded to find that I regained 7 GB from deleting my old restore points!

GOSH! When is the 100GB 7200RPM coming out!
Hey guys... I just read through the history of this entire thread; it read like a thriller novel as I would be totally ecstatic to find a 100GB 7200RPM HDD! Since there appears to be substatial enough proof, has anyone talked or thought abt filing a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) re. false advertising? Its a verrrrry bad (and costly) mistake on SeaGate's marketing and sales dept.

Can someone edit the title of this thread to add a 'NOT'? I was hoping it's true, but I can't find it anywhere either. It looks like newegg is out of the 60GB Hitachi 7200RPM drives right now too.

For those of you lusting for that elusive 100GB hard drive check this out.

Maybe this will light a fire under Seagate and Hitachi to bring some new products to market.

"The Fujitsu MHV2120AT hard disk drive will be available to OEMs and distributors May 2005, and comes with a three year limited warranty."

Gaah! If it's 7200rpm, I'm waiting!
So we should see product available by Jan 2006 then if you work to Segate's timetable. Mind you the drive is only 4200 RPM and is 50% slower track to track than the Hitachi 7k60 but it is double the capacity - useful to stick in the 3rd drive bay of the 8890's as an in system backup of the RAID 0 7k60's methinks
post #91 of 124
Kaido I think you are going to be waiting a while longer for the 7200 RPM version. Even if Fujitsu honour the May delivery date the MVH2120AT is only 4200 RPM

I give seagate until may to sell off the 5400s to make room for the 7200s........
I give Seagate nothing - no money, no respect, no kudos.

<soap box mode on>
To hype something up for nearly 12 months smacks of a lack of integrity. Ok things can go wrong but you don't market something on vapours. They delivered on the 5400 RPM but have egg on their face with the 7200 RPM model.
IMHO they turned the hype meter up a bit too far when it came to announcing back in March last year and then in June that they had the product. I call cow manure on this one.

It also concerns me that if they thought they could produce it then have to delay it again and again, it does not inspire any confidence in the long term reliability of the device. Obviously it is technically difficult so I wonder if I would put my valuable data on something I can't trust. Ok I do backups but I don't want to have to replace a disk 18 months down the road just because they got it wrong (take note Toshiba - you too are in this boat. Bah!).

You guys are missing the most important point, when seagate comes out with the bigger 7200RPM drives, this means hitachi will too.

Exactly ... I have very little doubt that Hitachi has had larger 7.2kRPM drives ready for quite some time, but why release them? They are still reaping the benefits of the 60GB sales and have no competition and no reason to lay their other ones on the market. If they did, they would just have to drop the price of the current drives.

Hopefully the 120gb is just the initial version to be released to be proceeded by a 5400 to a 7200 We all know that in a couple(maybe a few) years we'll see notebook hd's sata 7200rpm with 180gb (atleast).
They already have SATA Notebook hard drives. The biggest ones are 80gigs and spin at 5400RPM.
where are the pata 100gb 7200's still not here??? soon everyone is going to want sata drives........
