I've heard lots of complaints that the 8790's fans are loud, but can anybody tell me how the 4750 and 3970's fans are? If I were using them in a quiet room, would the noise be noticable? (excluding fan noises when gaming, just fan noises when using a word processor and stuff like that)

*sorry, this doesn't apply to the battery life, just felt curious*

With the 12-cell on my 3790, wireless disabled and brightness down I pulled 6 hours just coding in MS Visual Studio .NET. With the 12-cell battery in, brightness on full, wireless on and in use, and the Echo Indigo DJ in and playing I can get a little over 4 hours of continuous work.

sorry never got back to you wbeck.
That batter life was when i still had a 3200+
right now i can't get much over 2 hrs 10min
Otherwise i don't know what else i can tell you. I watched LOTR with max battery in windvd 6. Ummm. I thought that was about the norm (2 hrs 45min).

i'm probably going to get a 4750, because from what you guys have been telling me, it's really powerful and has decent battery life. And along the way, I might even buy the mobile Athlon.

Thanks for all the info!

Does anybody have the 6 cell Batt. for 3790????

what is life of the 6cell if you do have it? it seems like i havnt heard anyone at all talk as though they have purchased the 6cell. i know it has shorter life but is the 12 cell not a little bulkier when carrying in backpack?

I get 2 - 2 1/2 hours on the 6 cell with normal internet/microsoft word type use. I got the six cell to use when in school, and the twelve cell for gaming/trips etc.

I find the 12 cell still a bit limited for me under any use. 4 and a half hour flies by so fast.

2.0 ghz
1 gig of ram

I disabled ethernet, pc cam, ir port, 56k modem under device manager.
With bluetooth and wifi on, I get around 6 hours with constant use.

With bluetooth and wifi off, I get a little over 7 hours. Of course the screen is on the lowest setting with no sound, just browsing the net and word processing. 12cell battery.

thanks, do you prefer to transport it with the 6 or 12 cell, not sure by pics if it looks like it would change the way i transport my lappy now.

I've found it actually helps my 3790 fit in the Targus CTM500 better with the 12 cell because of the angle it gives. Not exactly sure why, but it's a tighter fit if I put it in upside-down.

XClaude: Not to mention waiting almost as long for it to charge, and having to hear the CPU fan go on and off more frequently than usual as it charges. Sure it will charge faster if you go into shutdown or standby, but who wants to do that unless it's bedtime?

I don't really notice much difference in weight between having 6 cell or 12 cell on, the 12 cell can feel a bit akward to carry, but if the computer is just in a backpack or something it doesnt matter.
