PC Mag 9200 review
Thanks for the link. It's interesting to note that the review and benchmarks were done on a Pentium M 765 (2.1GHz), which isn't an online option yet.

I'm assuming that battery score is for the 80 WHr 9-cell rather than the 53 WHr 6-cell. Can any "insiders" let us know if the 9-cell sticks out at all, or is it the same size as the 6-cell?

one thing i noticed is that hte better battery is $30 more on the canadian site and $99 more on the US site...throw in the currency conversion, and that;s pretty big difference. Hopefully it's a typo on the US site. Canadian site still shows the old quicksnap pix too.

Thats so kickass, definately something to consider other than a 3790...especially with a bigger screen, and a battery that doesn't lift the back of the notebook off the table =P...Also, I think the 3790 has a 3-3.5 hour battery life, this has 5, big difference If I say so myself.

I really really like this laptop and it has excellent battery life. If theres a deal within the next few weeks im in. How long was the 700m out before the first big coupon?
Uhh, I would still go for the 3790 or 8600 simply because they're not as bulky. And about the same gaming power (least in the 3790).

I'm getting more and more pleased with this unit. The battery life made me ignore the minor issues I had with the lack of the trackpoint and no A/V dock. I would assume there has to be another 17" Dell coming, because I remember reading about a model that would compete with the Sony A290, Toshiba Qosimo, and I suppose the new HP zd8000; I doubt the 9200 is that unit.

None the less, I am thorougly impressed with this package. I do wonder if the 9200 will dawn the Sonoma packaged, if the release is still aligned with the January launch...

Battery life alone is making this upgrade a more viable option for me. Now I just need a 20-30% off coupon!

Hi guys

Now I have to add my two cents.

Well IMHO this thing is just damn ugly. I really hate the design with the bulky chasis. The speakers overlap the display and judging from the pics that are available I would not buy it.
I will wait and see what DELL has still in stock for us like it was hinted :-)

Hey Sakor...don't need to be too specific, but can you elaborate a little on what specs we MIGHT see?

With absolutely NO evidence or hints from reliable sources that this would have PCI-express, where were you people getting the idea?

Also, your all looking into the name way too much.

I saw a 9100 with the 64 meg card in the outlet section for 895. Can this be upgraded to the 256 9800? You guys think this is a good deal if it can be?
I think that anyone who bought a 9100 with the 9800 256MB video card, got a real deal. If you compare my system to the $3700 Alienware "gamer" machine, there is no comparison. Dell figured out they were selling a seriously powerful machine at a Ridiculously low price. They got rid of the 9100 so the only choice for gamers or power users is the XPS, which is on par in price with Alienware and other DTR/GAMER machines.

yes, all 9100's can be upgraded to mr9800s

sub $1000 for a 9100, regardless of setup isn't a bad deal. The base was what, $1399 originally with the minimum config?

dell did not get rid of the 9100 to steer people towards the xps. both machines are going to be replaced soon based on rumors and other tidbits found on these forums and the web. also there is no alienware system that could touch the xps/9100 when it first came out, and now with the 9800, it just leaves the area-51m in the dust. even pricewise it is lower than the alienware.

That's close to what my price was with the $750 off deal and yes, as rogueone said, all the 64MB and 128MB 9700s can be upgraded to 9800. I ordered the 64MB 9700 because the configurator option for the 9800 was +$359, even though you can get the spare part for around $300 (minus install).

And yes, it's a good deal. I had been waiting for the Sager 9860, but the extreme price difference for a machine with the same 3.0 or 3.2GHz processor but different GPU made it impossible to pass up this deal. I figure, with the money saved, I can afford to buy another notebook in less than 6 months, when there should be some new A64 PCI-E machines and next-generation P-M notebooks to choose from, in addition to more P4s. And by then, the prices will have come down a bit on notebooks with the Geforce Go 6800 (and ATI's Mobility X800).

Man am I glad that I did not wait for i9200.What a dissapoinment? Only a MR9700 option and the step down in memory with PC2700. Like some one said in the forum earlier it is a step up replacement of the 8600 not the 9100.

Its 8 pounds tho. U add all the crap (wow, 250 more bucks from 512rarm to 1 gig) it comes out to be the same as a 8790 or whatever. Bad choice again, dell.

I don't have to be more specific, all the speculation and guesses are amusing enough . Nah, can't give too much away I'm afraid. The only thing I will say is that the 15.4" widescreen will make a comeback, in what model you will have to speculate on
