I don't think we can really reserve the title of dumb for any one country or culture. There are more than enough dumb people from all over the world....yes american is filled with dumb people but, I do not think there is a higher ratio of smart to dumb people here as there are in other countries. Durning a recent trip to Germany and France I couldn't believe how many people smoked. I was astonished that the supposed 'health concsious' European culture I had been lead to believe in was such a farce. Yes...I didn't see more than 10 fat people for the 2 weeks I was there, but I would say that at least a quarter of the people I saw smoked.

me...I am overwieght despite the fact that I eat a healthy balanced diet with controlled portions and exercise almost every day, am I angry...nope.

Timmy is right... where do you get off saying comments like that? In a forum filled with 90% Americans? 1) Theres no need for it and 2) Where is the rationale behind it?

Keep in mind everyone, that the United States has:

MIT
Harvard
Princeton
Stanford
CIT

People comes to these Universities from all over the world. Why do you think that is?

Cause we have pretty road signs that inform them of speed bumps? (Trying to bring it full circle here)

Just kidding. It's cause THE US OF A ROCKS. No other country has as many outstanding universities. I for one am proud to be an American, even if our taxes go to wacky road signs. At least some of those taxes are funding part of my college education!

Don't get me wrong.....I am an american and proud to be so. But, there are numerous universities abroad that MANY americans and others go to to study and have done so for far, far longer than any of ours. Education does not make for an intellegent person. The are more than a few educated idiots.
Remember 60% of americans are overwieght....that is by our OWN studies. How else are people from other countries supposed to look at us? Our actions certainly speak louder than our words.

How i would feel? well. i wouldn´t care at all. call me whatever you like, cause i will never be insulted. I´m in no was patriotic or anything, so you can call sweden whatever you like aswell...
I just have the splendid ability to say whatever i feel like saying, and i have no problem saying whatever i think.
Actually, while "socializing" with americans and others on the net i do think you all are a bunch of great blokes. the "dumb americans" are more geared to you as a mass, if you understand me. I despise your culture, your values, your president and so on, but you can still be nice persons.

can only answer the first question as i do not know the meaning of the word "rationale" (dumb swede).
There is certainly no need for saying things like that, and i do understand now that it might not have been so clever of me. But i had no intention of actually insult anyone. I thought that grown up persons did not really care about comments like that, and that it would instantly be seen the way it was meant to be seen, like a little funny/nasty comment.

And as to the comment someone wrote about you having many universities with fancy names, and that you must therefore be intelligent, i can only say "pffff!".

You are on to something there. Because all the time we in sweden hear anything from abroad it´s either fat children crying because they thought they could eat fastfood every day and live to see their 30th birthday, or some bloke shooting another bloke because videogames are so cool. And nowadays we are getting feed anti-bush things all the time and get to watch fat americans eat butter. And then we see you drive cars that consume 5 times as much gas as the ones we drive and aso forth. blah blah blah...
I´ve got a bunch of friends that have been over at your precious country, and when they came back they just laughed and told the most silly stories of how you knew nothing about anything.
It´s very seldom i get to hear anything "good" about you, and your beer tastes like shit....

So can some of you now understand why alot of us in that "Swiss Alps country" have rather negative feelings towards you?

Hey, I did not get fat until ended up sitting in a patrol car sucking the jelly out of doughnuts . . .

I think all countries have some damned fine aspects. America owes it's culture to almost every nation across the globe. We are the younger brother to countries like Sweden. The problem is that we see too many differences instead of commonalities. We could really use a common enemy (gay midget aliens perhaps).

Going nowhere quickly.

If you want to debate US culture, please go to the off topic section.
