Alien Area 51m and 5660

Well, my 5660 didn't come today---UPS has it slated for tomorrow.
A couple of questions regarding the 5660 and the Alienware analog; the Alien claims to have special high-performance heat sink and fans---is that different from the Sager or just the same?
Also, Alienware rates theirs as 7.0lbs without the battery---BS, or the magic of miniaturization lol?

Alienware weighs the exact same as the 5660 with the same options. As for their super duper anything... I checked their exclusive 120WATT AC power adapter and found it was the exact same one I had sitting right in front of me that comes with the Sager. Yeah, if you pull out the drives, it probably weighs around 7 lbs, but come on, do you leave home without your arms? I'm not fond of anything short of 100% truth... even in sales.

Agreed... that's why I love this place and PCTorque! :-)

I've seen 3dmark scores for the alienware 51m and they're identical to the scores people are getting here. There is no special heatsink/fan and there's nothing special about their optimizations/tweaking tools. It's the same thing with the other gaming pc makers. They all claim to offer super-duper tools but just so you know the highest benchmarks, more specifically 3dmark scores are on this site

That's because we sagerites rule. :-) I want to see when they come out with updated drivers for the M9 on their site... I want to download them and try them and see how optimized they are.

similarities

I was quite amazed at the similarities of the Alienware and the 5660. They seem to be virtually twins. One thing that is irritating on account of the Alienwares is that for the Chameleon paint job, they want 400+. That is just foolish and an obvious rip in my opinion. But again, the similarities are remarkable. But the best thing is that the Sager 5660 is MUCH less expensive!

They are the same thing. They're both made by an OEM named Clevo. With Alienware you just pay for the brand name.

clevo

Does anyone have any links as to Clevos direct hand in making sagernotebooks/alienware/prostar computers? Is it located on their site somewhere? And, when the word "make" is used, what is exactly meant by that ex" Clevo makes sagernotebooks/alienware etc. Reason being, friendly disputes are on the rise and i need solid proof...btw..did i ever tell anybody about how much i LOVE my 5660?

pctorque? beebster? any ohters?

I'm pretty sure you can get confirmation from sager/prostar or maybe even clevo themselves but I'm not sure how willing alienware would be with that info. If you want further proof on the "alien" conspiracy just check out the Press Release at the clevo website. They have the following headline:

Clevo 5600D is rated as" The fastest gaming notebook" according to TechTV

The link itself goes directly to the alienware website

The word "make" means that Clevo literally builds the notebook. All that Sager / Alienware, etc do is simply put in the removable components such as CPU, memory, hard disk, removable drives, etc.

This is the way most notebooks are done. For example, Dell does the same thing with the majority of their notebooks being built by Compal (Inspiron 8x00) and Winstron (Inspiron 26x0).

Actually, I believe Clevo is an ODM, not an OEM.

An OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) is a company that designs and builds a product based on their own specification, and then sells it to another company for branding and distribution.

So I was wrong then? I thought Clevo was an ODM. Hrm.

Is it possible you have them switched? Or am i flip flopped on the whole thing?

So I was right!

Turns out I was right!
Or does Sager build Clevo laptops after their specs?
