Afobisme Dell doesn't make money by being fair can't you *read* all the people who have cheated out this or that and your *concerned* with $16? You are a one of a kind or blind as bat to believe in the 'suspension of disbelief' another psychological real term, that DELL is your *friend*, not the manufacturer taking as much money out of your pocket as they can.

I did not get a 1.6 either waaah. But I LOVE this 8600 watching movies is an experience and I have the type of screen that you can view it from angles not like my 600 where you have to sit directly in front.

Is this PM 1.6 what you see when you go to "My Computer" and "Properties?"

I got that too then I used Aida32 and saw that I actually had a PM 1.5.

Nope. Start > Run > MSinfo32

this hooks directly into WMI and reads the system info. 1.6ghz. I've also loaded SpeedSwitchXP to change the processor speed and it also reports 1.6ghz. Intel Processor Frequency ID also reports 1.6 with 400mhz bus.

I think I have a 1.6!

I cant say the P4 EE is EXTREMELY different than a regular P4...I guess it has something to do with Doom 3 running extremely well..but so does the 500 dollar X800 XT. From my estimation I have a feeling that my overall SYSTEM speed comes with the 148 GB RAID 0 10,000 RPM raptors....I bet that is responsible for a lot of the speed difference that I'm seeing.

what's this got to do with the 1.6 processor in the 8600?
It doesn't :P

I didn't get the 1.6. Oh well it wasn't worth it anyways. People who ordered that late risked the coupon expiring and I remember how pissed I was when that 500 dollar coupon expired early.

This laptop has been pretty good so far. Stop complaining lets just all be happy

Yes, I did get 1.6 instead of 1.5 and a small discount like yours too. I like my new system so far

Inventory must've run out quick cause I ordered mine at 9am EST that day, and still got the 1.6 model. Now why couldn't the same thing happen with the hard drives.... "ooops, no more regular 60gb drives available, take this 7200rpm instead, we insist"

Oh my goodness... I got a free upgrade too

Also got the small discount

EDIT: Hmm, Is there a way to check the L2 cache? Aida32 and Fresh can't seem to find the L2 cache...

go right to the source! Intel has a great free frequency id utility that will tell you exactly what proc you have:

Awesome, that did it, thanks!

I just today received my 8600 that I ordered during the $750 coupon deal. I ordered a 1.5, and I also received a 1.6. Made me very happy! I did not receive any odd discount like others have mentioned; in fact I cancelled my original order and reordered on the phone to make changes to my config.
