Limited Network Connectivity

Hey all, I recently got my Area51m so I've been playing around with it before i post my pics and review. I just ran into a possible problem that is slightly annoying. I have the built in wireless and get wonderful reception in my house. I have a Linksys wireless G router.

Anyway, I thought I'd check out my network card so I disabled my wireless and connected my notebook to my router using my built in network card. The problem was that the network icon in the system tray told me that I am getting limited network connectivity.

I pulled up a cmd prompt and typed ipconfig to check my ip and all that info when i saw that it was differnt from what my wired desktop has.

I tried to do ip release and ip renew but it would get stuck during the renew and say it couldnt be done.

So I turned on my wireless and after a few min the limited connectivity on the network connection goes away and it finds the correct ip and everything.

has anybody else had similar problems? or know of a fix?

By any chance did you try the repair connection button, it's under the support tab. The same thing happens in my college but its just a matter of hitting that and Windows fixes the problem for you

all the 'repair connection' button does is an ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew, which he said he's already done

I am getting the exact opposite problem. My wired works fine on my laptop but I can't leave my room with wireless (that is where I have the wireless hub). My Dad however has an external D-link wireless-G card and he can go anywhere in the house and get a great signal. I bought a Microsoft Wireless-G router for $20 new so I am not going to complain but I wonder why my internal wireless can not get a good signal unless it is right next to it. At school though I can be what would be the equivilant of across my house away form the router here and it is fine (they are using Linksys though). That might be my problem, don't know.

Yeah I tried the repair button. It released the IP and then it runs into an error when trying to renew. Something about it can't connect to the DHCP or something like that.

New Development. I am at work and tried connecting it into the network connection here and it started working fine. Im thinking it is having issues with communicating with my router at home. Will require further investigation.

Anybody have issues with the Realtek gigabit NIC on the area 51m? Issues with connectivity or drivers?

OK, I have had this problem a half dozen times.....here are my 2 cents:

1. If I boot the machine with the cable in before the power comes on then it works correctly.

2. If I boot without a cable in and plug it it later it does not work correctly without a reboot.

Does yours work like this???

I tried it and it did not work.

Im convinced now that it is a deal with the linksys router and some setup with this notebook. Ive plugged other laptops into the router and it has worked fine. however i have not taken my notebook to work and to a friends house where it works by just plugging directly into the router.

its very puzzling.
