Oh, and OUCH, that's an expensive upgrade. Better off buying what you want brand-spanking new.
..
Yes looks like you are better then me at searching on NewEgg ... this is in the Extreme Mod post because those are extreme prices!! def. not worth it

It's easy to buy a second hand or new Pentium M CPU. Look in ebay or something, but it may not be worth it if you already have a 1.6 or 1.8. The gains are quite minimal. If you don't believe me, download and run a real time clock checker like THG_Clock or RMClock Utility or any dozen of different utilities out there. You'll find that your CPU runs at less than 1 GHz most of the time, so if I were you, I'd save da money until the 2 GHz dual-core Inspiron 800m or whatever is available

I wish we could do something to light the keyboard. Anyone??!

go to an electronic store, get some flat thin leds, the problem is where to draw the juice from? First you have to get a spec of the mobo to see where can you use this energy and hope it doesn't affect performance. Yet, if you imagine it, it can be done.

From the usb port is probably the simplest way.

If you're talking abou keyboard lighting, see the modding thread in Dell General for some ideas. But the best way is to just get a usb lamp

Dell Wake Up And Smell ...

You see, little things like the keyboard for the 700m that i am willing to pay some money to get it. Just like iPod (maybe not as much), we have thousands of 700m owners who love they machine. Camon Dell, make some extras for us!! What is matter, does Dell have too much money or became too big that they don't see opportunities like this??

sigh...

why would dell want the extra headache of having to worry about a bunch of mod happy idiots who would burn themselves or blow something up and complain about poor dell C/S.

I could see it now: "I overclocked my systsem to a 3.0ghz, added 100LEDs and the laptop doesn't work. The indian support rep said there was nothing he can do, what kind of an answer is that, stupid dell, I will never buy one again! Oh, who has a $750 off coupon? "

I would rather see more innovative laptop PCs, like a 700m with a real video card than useless mods!

Ah... a 700m with a dedicated GPU, a re-worked keyboard, and a modular bay battery option would be on my wish list. While we are at it, add volume/mute controls on that empty bezel above the keyboard too. Also, the far left sectioned portion of the status indicator strip is just begging for a Bluetooth icon as well - so add that in.
