Which has better stability and range?
its the abt the same, the only diff is the centrino sticker. u gotta buy the intel card for the sticker.

you're misinforming him...

dell 1350 eats up more power but has more range (high end it eats up less power though). intel pro wireless eats less power but has less range (low end eats up less power, higher end eats up more)... i *think* that's the consensus based on what many people have said.

I have had the Dell 1350 in my work laptop for a few months and the software IMO is terrible. It seems to be a wrapper around the Windows software which I am not a fan of. I have had my 700m for 2 days and I got it with the intel and I like that software much more. That's just my opinion, I havn't compared battery life or range of the two yet.

i should have gotten the intel wireless, dont know what i was thinking (it was 6AM, i was and am braindead .... it's 7AM and i had no sleep last night).

i want my centrino sticker and the intel wireless

The mini pci card is only like 30 bucks
don't be sad. from what i heard, erading up on several forums, the dell card gives more signal. isn't this what you want though?
you get a better setup/config program if you go with the intel

Excuse me for being possibly dumb, but I don't understand exactly what a wireless card would be for.

In my dorm and at home, I always connect to the internet by a phone cord. (At home I have cable, at the dorm I have DSL I think)

I know around campus and in some places, they have wireless connections and that is where the wireless would be used. However, would I be able to use it somehow in my dorm or at home too? Because I don't plan on taking my laptop with me to places.

I figured I'd get one just to have incase I ever change my mind, but thought since I mostly wouldn't be using it, I should get the Intel so it uses less memory.

Anyone able to tell me if what I think is right or if I'm really stupid and wrong?

I have three computers on my wireless system at home (1 desktop, 2 laptops). One of the laptops has a Linksys card and my new lappie has the Dell 1350. I find that I have better range with the 1350.

What kind of card is the Dell 1350? Is it an orinoco? I know the intel is the IPW2200 BG chipset... what chipset is used by the dell 1350?

I believe it has the broadcom chipset or something like that.

Yup, Broadcom chipset/drivers...no problems to report here with 1350's and Linksys wireless router using WPA.
I believe Dell uses Broadcom chip in their wireless cards. My Dell 1400 and 1350 in my laptops are connecting without problem with my Linksys WRT54GS with speedboaster. The 1350 gets better range/signal tho. BTW, Linksys also uses Broadcom chip in their routers.
so no one else gets periodic drops with the 1350? i guess it's just my router, y0
post #17 of 34
truemobile 1350 has outperformed the intel cards in 3 laptops by personal experience. just seem more stable. that's my own opinion.
Is everyone using the standard Dell or Windows drivers with the 1350, or are there better drivers/utils directly from Broadcom? And if so, what Broadcom model does the 1350 equate to?

Please help me here. I have dell 1350 on my new Dell 8600. I am not able to connect to my wireless network at home. Other two laptops that my roommatese have ,do not have this problem. I have Belkin b/g router. I dont have any security, encryption or i havent done mac filtering yet. I am clueless about what the problem could be.

thanks
Skander

skander, did you receive any answers yet? i have dell 1350 on a new 9100 and a new 600m, and i can't get either to connect to my wireless router/network, which works fine with the old system. each of the new computers sees the network and indicate strong signals, but they won't connect! what needs to be done?
