dell 1350 vs intel pro wireless - Page 2

I thought I read a previous post about the Dell wireless card coming with the incorrect drivers on the driver CD. You might make sure you have the correct drivers installed and if not go to the Dell site and dl the correct ones.

skander, I don't know if this applies to your problem, but I found two interesting articles among many regarding wireless connection issues under XP/SP2.

see page 2 of this article for workaround...

skander- did you ever fix that problem? on my end when i first received my 700m, i could see all computers on my network fine and they could see mine. they ultimately, could all access the internet through a wireless router. only they couldn't talk to each other, share files etc. . had to do two things:

1) set user name/password identical
2) turn off norton internet firewall AND XP firewall

hope that helps.

Are mini-PCI cards standard? I have an intel 802.11b card at the moment, was thinking of changing it to a b/g card. i was wondering if i could then pop the intel card into another notebook (not a dell, an Acer or an NEC)

hm, one try making sure that your wireless card isn't set at bridged. also, are you getting signal at all? if not, try right clicking on the bottom right signal bar tab, and checking if it's "radio signal disabled"

i don't seem to get stable connections with my dell 1350 and my dlink router.

does anyone else get disconnections on the dell card?

are they in the same workgroup?

i found out i could not do file sharing if my 2 laptops were not in the same workgroup. i have xp firewall and mcafee personal firewall on my i600m. the other dell has nothing turned on (only SP1 anyway)

i have the dlink 614+ with intel pro b/g card. i have not dropped any connection so far. but i found out the signal seems a bit weak. the router is in my bedroom, and i use the lappy in the living room. it is only 10' away (no direct signal.. bc the router is behine the wall in the bedroom).

but it works, only 11m
i might get a router with 54m so i can fully utilize the b/g card.

I got the Intel 2200BG in my 700m and it gets great range, and I haven't dropped within "normal" distance of my AP, a D-link DI-524. I can go all around my apartment and pick it up fine.

In fact, from work I can pick up a Linksys WRT54G from another building about 80 yards outside my window. It does drop sometimes, but normally I can get the lowest-power connection fine.

I use the Intel 2200 b/g and no probs. I use the Wireless Config included in WinXP SP2, and it is great. Don't have to muck around with profiles. The dell card should be able to do the same thing (with the WinXP SP2 Wireless config).
