YEP, Dell discontinued the 9100 last week.

Wow! I am so glad I got my I9100 when I did. For what the 9200 is, It's great. However it is vastly different than a 9100.

I agree with rogueone. Remember that not everybody, well, in fact, the vast majority of people out there are not extreme gamers. I'm getting the 9200 because of the reasons rogueone pointed out. For me, the ASUS M6BNE was my first choice (until last week), but I hesitated buying it because I wanted a higher resolution glossy screen and 128 MB of video memory. The 9200 gives me that, and it's only about one pound heavier with battery life that's just as good at almost the same price. Aside from the Radeon 9800, why would you buy the XPS?

I was going to as this same question, so thanks for doing it for me. I like the screen size, but am not very impressed by the processors available or the overall package. Im thinking they mean for the XPS to be the hardcore gaming/graphics machine for the company, and the 9200 to be a lesser, unlike the 9100 that was a darn near equal. Im kinda missing the 9100, as I wanted one, but couldnt spill the cash quite yet. If you look at the 9200, in a lot of respects it parallels the HP DZ7000.

How is the screen on the 9200? Is it super glossy like the iMacs, Toshiba G15s and Sony A series that I see in the stores or is it more like an old 8600? Thanks.

9100/XPS are only good for the mr9800. Other than that, they are ugly laptops, esp the horrendously looking XPS. I was close to getting a 9100 but decided I couldn't bare with its design and looks. Dell has taken a positive quantum leap in design with the 700 and 9200. They made a mistake by not having the mr9800 as an option, and also for being frugal by not including eraserhead. If Dell does not get their act right, I may be forced to go with HP or toshiba; I just don't know much about sager. There is only so much longer I can wait...

i am extermely AGREEE with you

9200 rubbish i'd say just a 17'' screen doesn't do much on games !!!!

The 9200 is clearly not a direct replacement for the 9100....

that is so true

i9100 and ixps rulez

You 9100/xps owners are bashing the 9200 way too much. Not everybody wants a gargantuan gaming brick.

Yes, but you're in a 9100/XPS forum. Just about everyone in this forum wanted or wants the powerhouse desktop replacement.

Actually the title of this thread is Impressed with 9200? I was simply asking if the screen was shiny and bright like the new laptops with the Xbrite, Trubrite technology.

The 9200 is not a replacement at all for the 9100. They are two totally different systems. The 9100 is for gamers. The 9200 is for people who want a good screen, great battery life, and good enough components to play some occasional gaming. Basically the 9200 is an improved 8600 with a larger screen.

9200

It seems some people are forgetting one simple thing...not everyone buys a computer to play games on...

I actually don't think the i9100 + 9700 combo is faster than the i9200 + 9700 combo in GAMING........just ask the i9200ers to post some benchmark.
