Hi all,

I get my 9100 in roughly 7 days and wanted to ask some opinions about a possible rebuild?

Having read some of the posts on this forum is it best for me to leave the default Dell install on the machine or to reinstall my own copy of XP ?

Also whats the opinion on graphics drivers, dod I stick with the drivers from ATI/dell or go with the omega drivers ?

I can't answer for you. Personally I wipe and build everything I buy. (I don't need all the extra crap on there like aol etc..)

But then I have an msdn subscription, so I get most M$ software already, and can put on anything I want.

Well, I received my 9100 last week. When you first start it up, it will have about 38-45 running processes. I still have the factory 256MB RAM from the factory (the Corsair is on it's way though ), so it runs pretty slow. Since I'm going to do a dual-boot setup with Linux anyway, I went ahead and formatted and re-installed. Right now, after loading some programs (didn't reinstall most of the Dell trialware), I'm currently running 27 processes and using just 156MB of RAM. Right after the install and driver reload, I was only running 25 processes and using like 137MB of RAM.

Long story short, the system is quicker, and feels less cluttered. I installed the Omega drivers, and I haven't experienced any real problems (except that when the screen comes out of the screen saver, the taskbar and a few icons take an extra second to display again). I haven't benchmarked, but the graphics feel more responsive and crisper. If your comfortable re-installing the OS (it's not that difficult), then I would highly recommend it myself.

Reinstall it, it make the system run better and faster without all that Dell crap on it.

i didnt do a clean install on my computer, I just went to msconfig, and selected which apps i wanted to load when windows loaded up, when i was done i had around 30 applications running, much quicker load time and alot nicer.
