MP3 player not functioning (8886)

Hi~ I can load MP3 files (LAME or BLADE types-either one) into the MP3 player from a CD. Then I can play them back through the computer as long as I leave the player in it's port. If I take the player out of it's port, hook up headphones and try to listen to it I get no sound even after pushing all the buttons. There are only 2 zeros (00) on the display. Nothing else. Tried 2 sets of new Duracells, too. I am using dBpowerAMP as my converter. Any ideas?? This is a new machine. Before I send the player back to Sager I want to be sure I'm not doing something wrong. Thanks.

Are you pulling the Mp3 player while the computer is still on?

Yes, I am pulling the MP3 player while the computer is on. Not good?! Thanks.

If you pull it out while it's on the files on the MP3 player will be gone
Didn't you see a pop up come up when you pulled it out saying something was pulled out?

Hi~ Ok, if I pull the player out of it's port while the computer is on nothing pops up on the screen (Windows XP Pro issue?) and then if I put the player back in and search G: it shows that the files are on the card like they're supposed to be. Just won't play those MP3 files with the player out of the machine and headphones connected. The display just shows two zeros and does nothing else. Thanks for the help on this.

Hmm

I dunno
On my Win2k the first time I took out the MP3 player while the computer was on, there was a pop up message saying something was pulled out
When I couldn't play any songs, I put it back into the laptop and checked the drive
The songs were gone

bbbggg,
The MP3 player acts like a USB storage device while connected to the computer. Look in your taskbar tray for a "safely remove devices" icon, click on it, and it should show a USB storage device that you can deactivate before ejecting the MP3 player.

That said, I still don't think it should matter whether you safely eject or not. If you're sure you have copied MP3 files onto the device, you should see at least '01' on the display to suggest you are on track 1.

Also, try taking the batteries out of the MP3 player and leave them out for a while... let the hardware reset and see if that helps.

Also, try ripping a couple tracks with RealOne player. This works on my machine. :\

If nothing works, I'd contact your supplier and/or Sager support... either for more troubleshooting or a replacement.

Yes, like we talked about on the phone the other day, if the batteries are confirmed to be good, get an RMA and let Sager replace it if you haven't done so already.

I have powered down the MP3 player too. Nothing seems to make it work outside of the 8886 environment even though the files are in fact on the card. I just thought I'd throw out my little problem to the board just to see if I've missed something. Sager Service (which is great, they returned my call right away) suggests my conversion software may be suspect. Since the player is easily detachable I think I might just send it in and have them check it after I get an RMA. It's no big deal to me. The big deal is this great machine, PCTorque, this board and now it looks like the OEM, also. Dude, I'm glad I wasn't gettin' another Dell.

I'm glad I didn't decide on a dell... lol, I'd like to set this baby up (8886) beside the best possible dell lappy and watch their jaw drop. lol, then pull out the price tag from PCTorque and watch them faint cuz they payed for a dell. :-)
