This damn touchpad is tooooooo damn slow....

I searched the forum but didn't seem to find anything.....is there something I can do to make this touchpad faster?

PS - YES I already have it set to FAST in Mouse Properties and have the latest drivers.

I have the same problem on my inspiron 8600.

Trackpad is slow. It doesn't really matter much to me, but I'd like to figure it out.

Is there a setting or something that will fix this?

It seemed fine til I did a format and clean xp install. I installed all the drivers including the touch pad drivers, but man this thing sucks. I hate to say it cause I love everything else, but the synaptics (?) pad om my Sager was ALOT better. There is really a;ot of lag now.

You dont even need the drivers to fix the touchpad speed. You can do it with Mouse properties from Control Panel. This was one of the first things I did after a clean install. Before I could travel at most about 1/3 of the WUXGA screen length and after adjusting I travel about 2/3. I did also find the touchpad way too sensitive, when typing often resulting in loosing focus and interrupting my typing. If you feel you need to change the touchpad sensitivity you have to download the ALPS touchpad driver from the Dell site. After installing the driver you can also disable tapping wich let's you click things all the time without intention.

You know, I completely forgot that you could do that, thanks for the reminder. It really bugged me that I ran out of touchpad before when I was dragging and dropping files and stuff.

no nothing....maxed out the speed in the mouse settings and still only get about 2/3 of the way across the screen before needing to lift the finger and do it again....quite frustrating.

You could try out using Inertial Movement "Area Switch" Tab and enable Inertial Movement... and disable only when dragging. I'm not sure if that will appease you more.

I do have the same problem (needing to lift my finger before the edge of the screen).

I`ve already been in the properties, it doesn`t fix the lag and imprecise response. My prob wasn`t speed or travel, I fixed them in properties, but I cant adjust out the lag no matter which feature I tweak.

Even with all of the settings maxed out at fast for the touchpad, if your initial movement on the touchpad is slow and smooth, it senses that you want more precision vs. distance & speed. Starting out with a faster pace slings it across the screen. On my 15" screen, if I go slow, the pointer may only make it 1/2 way. Larger screens might be more of an issue. I can't stand slow pointer movement & settings.
