Weird clicking noise

Hey guys... haven't been around in a while but now I have a real concern about my Sentia. Every once in a while my Sentia will start making these clicking noises. I don't think it's coming from the CD drive. Sometimes when I start a new application or something it'll go away. Is this normal? Because it's driving me crazy when I'm trying to study and it keep clicking. Help please?

thanks!!

It sounds like its the hard drive, and if that is the case then yes its normal.

Well sorry if I was mistaken... its just I encountered the same thing when I bought a laptop. A very faint clicking which I then belived was the parking and unparking of the heads in my harddrive. A lot of people seem to run into this, on many different notebooks:

Edit--

Added one more that seems to cover the problem more in depth:

I have the same problem with mine, but only when I put in a disk. It kinda sounds like gears sipping or something.

mmm... so the hard drive makes noise when you put in a cd/dvd into the optical drive?

On my sentia I also get a clicking noise, trouble is its pretty random when it does it. I certainly think its the hard drive, it's done it from new. I ran HD tests and everything said it was fine but I am concerned.

If it needs replacing do you think I would be able to upgrade at the same time?

I've been through 3 hard drives and they all made the same clicking noises. On mine ounce it starts to make the noises it wont load the cd at all. It wont even show that there is one in it, in my computer. Anyone else have the same problem?

Damn this clicking noise!! It drives me crazy when I'm trying to study, but my cd drive still works. I notice that it only happens when the hard drive isn't processing anything.... like rigtt now... *click*click*click*.. it click pretty fast too. I don't know what to do. I think I'll have to call Alienware tomorrow and get this settled. But I hope they dont make me replace this hard drive cuz I'm in college right now and my laptop is ultra important.

hey 28dayz! It might be an inconvenience but your going to want to get it taken care of within warranty. should start backing things up on cd.

Nope was a general question, I have a 5400rpm and its ticking all the time, thought a 7200rpm might be a better option. Trouble is UK CS doesn't seem as good as US. I dont want to send my laptop back just yet either as I need it for work.
