Possible Bad news for anyone who was planning to upgrade their 800FSB laptops - Page 2

Damn I cannot edit the post. Anyway....

"" spending over $2000 on a laptop that you cant upgrade the cpu is rediculous ""

You know what's REALLY ridiculous? Never end waiting for the next-around-the-corner technology that will ALWAYS be outdated by a newly released feature within 6 months. And once that new feature is release, keep on waiting because there are some news floating on the horizont of yet ANOTHER new feature hitting the market shortly, and so on and so on and so on.

Moral: You will never buy a laptop

Cheers.

Well, that's true.... waiting is never ending in the technology world. But the biggest point I consider Sager over others laptop is the ability to upgrade easily in the future. The way Sager use Desktop CPU is the main reason for me to buy it because you can buy desktop CPU very easy in the market unlike mobile CPU like Pentium 4-M or new Pentium-M.
But if I'm going to buy a new Sager laptop that I know for sure that I can't upgrade to the new CPU that is going to come out after it release 2 weeks.... I don't think I can make up my mind for that..... True, I'm not hurry to get a new laptop so the waititng for me is nothing.... As someone said.... You need to choose the right moment and I believe this is not the right moment for me... Just me .2 cent ...

will still play every game, run every program available today, and for the next year or two.
run every program the next year or two or five sure. Wishful thinking if you think it will run ever game or near such for the next two years.

With games like Doom III and the next coming unreal games it will be a slide show. Remember quake III, a alot of game devs changed the engine and it went from 200fps for quake 3 to 40 for medal of honor allied assault.

Same will go for the Doom III and Unreal engine games, thats why us gamers are wanting the very best when it comes to video cards for a laptop. Wait 2 months for a product that will run games sluggishly instead of a slide show is worth it depending on what the user will be doing.

so upgradability is a MUST for me hehe

for the average joe college smirk it wouldnt

Thats the same for desktops man but if you can upgrade it to make it run a tad faster instead of buying a completely new laptop then more power to us.

Thats the way laptops are going, a year ago all you could do was change the hd and ram and if you were lucky the video card for dell laptops. Now its all changing slowly but surely

people want to be able to upgrade there machines, well im sure you would like to wouldnt you?

of course if you need a laptop NOW then hey get what suites you best atm

its just like geting a girl, sure you can get a ugly slut but why not wait for a charming pretty lady?

Well, you know the old saying, "Treat a lady like a tramp, and a tramp like a lady."

Maybe that ugly slut will give you more hours of enjoyment right out of the box?

Well said, WTB!

Upgrading a bit makes sense, but upgrading PCs quickly leads to diminishing returns. In general, I like the 'upgradability' of the Sagers solely because I know that it means it will be easier/cheaper to fix if something goes wrong (ie, processor fails, memory fails, harddrive fails, whatever).

I will be waiting for the new M10P and the 800FSB and the P5s, etc, but I will spend my time waiting with my new 4760 in hand!

If you get a Sager it will be upgradable. If you want to upgrade to a new Prescott after the new pin configuration, I'm sure Sager will upgrade your motherboard and anything else that can be upgraded at the time. There hasn't been a newer model that couldn't be upgraded to that I know of.

The pinouts being used are up to Intel spec and are supposed to work with the new Prescott processors. Unless they change it, it should be fine. There's no way to prove it of course until the new ones are out.

My laptop Future

My take on the situation is this: When I buy my 5680 it will be a machine that I will be perfectly happy with for at least a few years to come. If after that time Sager offers a upgrade deal then great, but its not something expected just another great extra for Sager. The fact that an upgrade is even a possibility is a miracle in itself considering all the trouble the manufacturer has to go through to provide it. For me Ill just take it as it comes. Kind of a pointless post but thats how I feel

5660

Yeah I agree, it is a never ending cycle.

I'm seriously happy with my Sager 5660. It totally screams in everything that I use it for, illustrator, visual studio.net , photoshop, maya and gaming. I think the biggest jump for me is to go from 64 meg vid card to 128.

My bosses are still gaming on a 32 meg card and fraggin' my ass. In fact had I not blown out my screen on my sony laptop P3, 450, I would have stuck with that. Sony told me it would be a grand to replace the screen. I didn't want to buy an external monitor so I used a crappy one, and then when I got my 5660, I put my sony in a safe spot in my new apartment.

And then I got broken into and they took my sony digi 3.2 meg camera and my old sony laptop. Luckily I had my sager on me. I'm just happy with what I got coz it works and I still got it!

If you're going to upgrade CPUs, why note use the Sager mobo upgrade. The mobo upgrade will give you alot more performance boost than the CPU
post #35 of 35

yeah I was thinking about it

Yeah that's what i plan on doing. Adam how much would it be to upgrade to 3.06 , 128? and how long would it take?

Thanks

Bruce
