Well the fedex man arrived about an hour ago with my brand new AMD 64 3700+ DTR. I was so happy i almost hugged him...just kiddin. Well currently i am typing on my laptop so the install was good. The processor idles at around 40* and i haven't gotten to any extensive benchmarking yet but i'll let you know. It gets up to 68* when playing doom 3. Well i'm gonna start some benches and see how it goes.

Best of luck to you. How are your fans running? Are then running at full blast from the moment you start up?

I am a newbie to this forum, so forgive me if this is redundant question...

Overall, how significant is the heat output with the 4750? I have an older Alienware 5160 (I think), and I can practically cook a turkey with the heat blowin' out of it. It'll shut itself off from so much heat. I'm looking to do live music and need something SOLID, yet powerful.

Any advice/insight would be appreciated - even advice on previous threads.

Thanks.

Well so far i'm pretty disappointed by the new CPU. The increase isn't as large as i thought it was going to be...at least in benchmarking. I'm getting 3515 at stock speeds in 3dmark03. I'm going to tinker around a little bit and see what i can get out of it.
For Rustacian the fans arent running at full blast from start and so far i haven't noticed a difference in fan noise. I'm not saying there isn't a difference it just isn't noticeable.
For Rami the heat output isn't as big as it was with the fan firmware and bios it was first shipped with. I don't really mind the heat at all but my campus is always freezing cold also and thats the only time i ever use it on my lap.

3dmark03 really doesnt do anything to test your cpu. The difference between a 2800+ and a 3700+ with the same gpu is around 200pts.

Try Sandra or 3dmark01.

But anyway, going from a 3400+ to a 3700+ will probably only net you a 3-5% increase in performance anyway.

I went from a 3200 to a 3700 so i hope it is more than 5%.
