Do your Asus tick!?

Do your Asus harddrive make anoying ticks?

I've read that Dell has had these problems, but has some of you ASUS people experience that? It tick kind of unregular and with som 1-2sec of quietness. Sometimes its quit for 20 sec, then again. The tick is somewhat louder than the ordinary harddrive load sound.

Any solution to this?

Whats your make/model of hard drive?

hmmm, we're missing a lot of important details here, the most important being the model(s) of the harddrives thought to be affected.

Basically, as kronus wrote, the ticking would be related to the model of your hard disk...

See my previous post; it gives an overview:

Interesting. I have the Hitachi but don't think I've got the clicking. Is this only on drives shipping x months ago? My drive tends to be active, but I'm assuming that is from software calls. Does the clicking correspond to the activity light blinking or is it independent?

If this clicking scares you get the Hitachi 60GB 7200 - very quiet and running cool. I have read of this ticking issue being present with some 80gb 5400 Hitachi or Toshiba but nothing more.

When I had my CL56 it too made that noise... one thing that i disliked about it.

Sorry for a bad post, not stating harddrive. Was kind of tired yesterday.

Yep, I think I have the Hitatchi 80Gb (my Asus is M6762Ne). I'm not certain about the brand, but eighty it is, and in bios the serial for the harddrive begins with HTXXXX. Where can I check this properly?

Sorry Tomasz, I will read your post later, I'm in a bit of hurry.

This alienware rep appears to think that the ticking isnt normal...

Okey, now I think I've read it all. But, it didn't give me any final answers.
Tomasz, did you succeed in updating with the IBM firmware?

Also, I got my computer and up till now I have problems with processor
temp over 75 degrees, harddrive clicking, and also i'm uncertain about the
600Mhz-issue.
Feels like I should turn to support, but I rather solve the problems myself,
than wait for another three weeks of service/replacement.

What do you think?
I have yet not been able to solve temp and harddrive issue.

When you put it all together like that, personally I would have sent it back, but I would have tried to fix everything first also. The hdd problem and heat that is disproportionate to most others would break the camel's back for me and it would go back.

yeh, at least I will make contact with Asus, and see what they have to say.
I haven't found any national number for Sweden yet though.
Thanks for your replies!
