It came as part of the new version of aol im. I checked to not install it but it's still there. How do I keep it from loading up.

go to start, run type in msconfig and hit enter. In the general tab select selective startup, then go to the startup tab. THen look for a program names weatherbug. Uncheck the box and click ok. THat that should take care of it.

I do that. When I reboot and check out msconfig again it starts up as selective start up(which is seen under the general tab instead of normal startup) Is that gonna make a difference affecting other programs.

that happens a lot with quick time too...

try going to start, programs, startup and remove it from there...

otherwise check the properties/options in weatherbug

do it the pro way

Open registry, click to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > MICROSOFT > WINDOWS > CURRENT VERSION > RUN

Delete the key that points to weatherbug. Tada

It could also be that AOL is re-instating the registry startup stuff each time AOL is run, thus removing it may not solve the prob...

Let us know if the registry fix removes it, or if it starts showing up again.

Run prompt-> regedit

Be careful in there: if you don't know what it does, DON'T MESS WITH IT
Or you can just play around and see what cool stuff happens.

My solution would be to uninstall AIM, reformat all electronic devices within 20 ft of my computer (AOL stuff is tougher to get out than any virus I've ever encountered), and then hit it with a hammer . If you're short on time, though, you can always just get Gaim or Trillian (I recommend Trillian Pro).

Use AdAware Personal. It gets rid of most of the nasties including Weatherbug.

you can also tweak startup items in xp by going to start -> run and type msconfig which should pop up a new window and then select the startup tab.
