SLI may not be worth it after all

After checking out that review of the new MSI mobo with SLI u can see that generally overall two 6600 GT cards will equal the same performance of a 6800 GT. The price vs. performance ratio would be better for one card imo. I mean those 6600 GT's average a retail price of like 200-250 so that would be the same as a 6800 GT. This is kinda a let down for me because I was waiting for those SLI mobo's but now I guess I should just order the parts that I'd like for my PC. Anyway I'd like to see what u guys think.

well what about 2 6800's there is no card that powerful. lol. so when you double the best cards you get a better price to preformance ratio

Sure the 6800 Ultra's SLI'd will be better than any card out there because there is no card that strong but newer powerhouse cards are going to come out by the end of the year/ beginning of next year. Plus who's gonna spend near a grand on video cards alone.

Me....

I would never consider SLI a way to easy upgrades. By the time you want to upgrade, you could probably get better performance from one card. It's for enthusiasts.

awww thats not cool, I was so excited....

If I had the money, I would do it for bragging rights. Two 6800GT's offer excellent performance and they can be had for good prices from time to time.

Pc's shouldn't be able bragging rights cause if thats what u have to brag about then u need some new friends.

So then what is worth bragging rights?

Besides, what if all your friends are also PC junkies? Get new friends?

Eh I view a PC like a view a car, sure there are better cars than other but whats to brag about when both get u from point a to point b. Thats how I view PC's, if they play the game well enough for you to kick ass then y should anyone else care.

If everyone had that mentality, companies like Alienware and FNW would be out of business...

The benchmarks that I saw on anands site are pretty much what I was expecting from SLI system. But i can definately see a market for this not just for the enthusiast crowd, but also for developers and people who do heavy 3d work. Not to mention the oppertunity for a 4 headed system. Its definately about exending the life of systems more then they are now. New videocards are always going to come out and their preformance is always going to be better then the previous generation. But I sure would love to exentend the time needed before a upgrade like that if i could and PCI Expess with SLI is a good soultion for that. Also all those things were sample product/beta drivers so id expect a little bit more preformance from final products. Also with each driver iteration there comes the possiblity of more of a preformance increase from the cards.

Damn right, two Quadro FX 4000's in SLI powering a few of the new Apple Cinema displays would be rockin.
