need advice: DV editing laptop

Thread Starter
I'm looking for a good portable laptop that will flawlessly handle Premiere Pro editing.

Factors that i want my laptop to cover:
-battery life (3 hrs while playing DVDs)
-under 7lbs
-reliable cover structure so dead pixels won't be much of a concern especially while I'm skating with it.
-quiet fan
-superbly handles intense DV editing.
-possibly a Multi Angled Screen..but not necessary

I am willing to spend anywhere up to $2000.

Thanks guys!

I would recommend the Asus M6(B)Ne - (15.4 widescreen WXGA) SXGA+ screen:
6.6lbs
long battery life - easily 3.5hrs of DVD playback with main battery; can also hold a second battery in the optical bay - 5.5 of DVD playback.
carbon fibre frame gives it extra strength while weight is kept at minimum
I am sure it will handle all the tasks you will need it for.

Also look into Compal CL56 - a proven performer and favourite on these forums. It has SXGA+ 15inch screen and 128mb 9700; the Asus comes with 64mb 9700.

Both the Asus and CL56 are centrino laptops using Dothan cpus.

For an AMD laptop you don't have many to choose from - Acer Ferarri 3200 (3400 has just came out too) is the only LOW POWER AMD 64 laptop I have heard of. The low power cpu helps it get a better battery life than other AMD laptops although I doubt it will get more than 2.5hrs of DVD playback. Also it is painted in RED which is the least appealing feature, IMO that is.

And once again... the topic arises. Mac might have some nice software to do dv on, but whatever the mac can do, so can the PC. So its not like mac is the must have for DV or this type of work.

Well, the new macs can also run windows, so you can have more flexibility in terms of editing. You can also look into Dell's laptop line for a nice 17" notebook. In terms of price I think you get a lot of bang for buck.
