Asus M6800Ne series (M6727NEUH)

Thread Starter
I have purchased this laptop. It is a very nice one. But I am a little concerned about it. The cooling unit is very quiet. Thats good news usually. But even when I am stressing it with work it still is very quiet. The bottomside is very hot when I plug the power supply unit. My sister got a also an Asus be she has got a M6800n series with banias. The cooling unit of hers spins fast from time to time for approximately 1-2 minutes. So I wanted to ask if anyone else has got also an Asus notebook with 1.6 ghz dothan and mobility radeon 9700. Thank you in advance.

Asus put in a very quiet three speed fan. Using MobileMeter, I’ve found that the CPU runs between about 43C and 47C for general word processing/internet use. I hadn’t heard the fan at all until I ran a utility that displayed fan speed and discovered that the fan comes on at low speed (3000rpm) at 45C. I never heard it! Now that I know, I can hear it if I put my ear to the vent, but not otherwise. I think the next higher speed comes on at 60C (3600rpm). You can definitely hear the higher speed, but it is not at all irritating. It has a mellow “whir”. No “whine” at all. I've not yet needed to have the highest speed come on. It must be at 70C or more.

Get Mobilemeter so you can see how hot your CPU is actually running:
