smallest centrino laptop?

Does anyone know of the smallest (thinnest) centrino laptop currently on the market or soon to be on the market? I always have trouble searching for things like this because I don't know what terms to search for.

it depends on what you want in the laptop. the slimmest centrinos dont have optical bays (no cdrom drives) so you have to use external. theres also a difference between slimmest and smallest ;-) the fujitsu p5000 is really small, good screen, with an optical/second battery bay and a centrino 1000mhz. Its a really nice looking laptop, gets great battery life. check out www.leog.net for a forum like sagerforums about that laptop. The new sony tr1 is small too, but it dosent use standard laptop hard drives, it uses pcmcia harddrives like those in ipods, so it slow and small. the new panasonics look great, the w-2 should kick ass.
this place has a pretty good rep for selling these laptops in the us, although not really on resellerratings. I know if you get a fujitsu p5000 from them they will open it up and verify no dead pixels if you ask ;-)

erh none of them have 1000mhz centrinos yet, the highest you can get in a really small notebook is 900mhz, which is perfectly adequate if you ask me. Its replacing the p3 that used to be in small laptops like this, I dont think any super small laptops have ever used p-4's. if you're going to be gaming you dont buy one of these, although the p5000 runs alot of games with all the options turned off ;-)

Well I think im going to go with the hp/compaq nx7000/x1000 laptop. Good size, good screen, good price. I was going to get a sager, but I decided on a medium laptop and a desktop instead of just an uber laptop.

Yeah, it's a tough question one has to ask themselves: do I really need such a hard-core laptop? I mean, we all don't need Ferraris and Lamborghinis, sometimes a Toyota is just fine.

(bad comparison, but you get the idea)

yeah, for a long time I was convinced that I was going to get the 8887 as soon as 3.2 ghz and 9600 came out, but after seeing this, I started wondering. I have a pocket pc with keyboard for taking notes in class (at college), so I thought i wouldnt need to be that mobile(hence getting the 8890), but then I thought...do I really need to spend that much on a laptop? I surely wanted a big screen, and I want it to be decently good for gaming, but I realized I could get a lighter, longer battery laptop for mobility, while still having a kinda big screen (15.4" widescreen) with a good resolution. And its A LOT cheaper than the maxed out 8890. Which leaves me some money to get a KILLER 21" LCD for my desktop in my dorm room

So thats the route I plan on going...Sorry Sager, maybe some other time

just to clarify, there are 2 types of centrino processors, the normal ones (1.3-1.7 currently) as well as the low voltage variety, which is currently either 900mhz or 1ghz. The reason subnotebooks (less than 3 lbs, only occasionally including a cd drive) havent really taken off in the past is that the processors they used drew alot of power. the low voltage centrino + increased battery size in a still small package makes them have really good battery life. Personally, Icouldnt justify getting something tiny and ultraportable if it wouldnt last 5 hours on battery. if im going to have to plug it in I might as well get a sager ;-)

This has to be one of the sweetest laptops I've ever seen. Too bad it costs an arm and a leg...

Much has come out about the pending releases of the AW and Sager laptops, but I'm curious if the m10p will appear with any small-form laptops around the same time. Honestly, a 12 lb laptop isn't all that appealing to me, and I'd really love to see a lappy in the 4-7 lb range that appears with the new gpu (one with the 5600go would be great too). So far all I'm seeing and hearing about from sager, aw, sony, and toshiba are large, p4-based monsters.

Well the compaq x1000 already has the ATI 9200 mobility card in it, which is better than the 9000 in current sagers. I'd probably say that a version of it will indeed come out with the 9600 in the near future.

new toshiba, .7" thin. big screen, nice battery, 32mb dedicated video memory. I want it. Scored 5500 in 3dmark apparently, great for such a tiny tiny laptop.
