4760 Issues - Page 2

Count me in on that boat.

Aside from the occassional pop (which in itself is not that bad), I'll say this laptop is by far a no-brainer if you're looking for an incredible machine at an incredible price.

I'm of the opinion its more of a hardware related issue. When I plug in my headphones, I don't hear any kind of popping.

Lets face it, no matter what kind of speakers you get in a laptop, they're not going to be something you'd want to build your entertainment center around.

For me, this occassional "POP" is something I can live with considering everything else around it.

Yeah...in the audio control panels...mute all those things that are unnecessary like LIne in, Phine line, mic, 3D blah!, etc.

And close that sound program after startup...

if you still have a problem then im stumped
post #23 of 37
Well, the part that really freaked me out was the guy saying that the pop was more noticeable, not less, when external speakers were plugged in. I expect that I'll usually be using headphones, so if it's a speaker problem, it is indeed very minor; but if the sound produced by the laptop will always have that problem, it sounds like a small hell.

Could someone please at least verify that not ALL 4760s suffer from this flaw?

Do any of you outhere who are getting a poping sound have a mouse attached to the computer.

I hooked an external serial optical mouse to my 4760 and I have heard an occasional pop. I removed the mouse and the pop goes away.

Just a suggestion. Kill the mouse...............

No external mouse on my config.

I'm gonna head over to SIS and Realtek sites after work today to see if they have any fixes/drivers/patches for this issue. I will give it a try when I get home and let you all know what the result is.

I am also going to disconnect the Subwoofer and see if that helps. BTW I cannot adjust the Bass and Treble levels in the Audio setting.......that may also be a problem.

See u all after work today.............yes I'm working on a Saturday.

You never own a small business, IT owns YOU!

Also please make a note as to what application you are running when you hear the popping sound and what programs you have running in the taskbar. If we all compare notes we might be able to get to the bottom of this.

Also make a note if you have the bluetooth module/wireless lan or both items on your 4760. My popping sound started when I installed these 2 items on my laptop.

I have also disconnected the subwoofer and my mouse. Lets see what happens next

Tonite is the first time I have used my 4760 in a week. I was in the fourms posting and I minimized my work and opened Internet Explorer in another window. Once I opened the pricewatch site I got that $%#@^*( popping sound again.

My built in mic is NOT enabled.

The subwoofer is disconnected.

Is anyone else out there getting the POP when either in IE or changing pages in IE?

Lets see if we can narrow down this menace.

Anyone made any progress on this situation? I'd really like to hear if you have as I will be ordering the 4780 very soone as it is introduced ... *if* this issue and any like it are clarified. Anyone with the 4760 NOT having these problems?
I have a 4760 and have NOT experienced these problems.

Your mileage may vary...

The only time I get the "pop" is during IE. It is only noticeable becuase it happens SO INFREQUENTLY. As I stated previously, I would still purchase this amazing computer, even if i had knowledge of this issue. it is not that big of a deal to me.

Hi:

Realtek drivers were no different than what Sager supplied.

SIS only had generic device drivers so I passed on dowloading.

I got the popping sound with the subwoofer disconnected. So I re conected subwoofer.

I sent an email to Sager Tech Support. They recommeded that i mute the Line In feature in the audio properites section.

I am giving this a try. Will update you all if this does NOT work
post #32 of 37
I tried muting the line in a while back. Didn't work. Still, it is so infrequent, it really doesn't bother me at all.

I think I GOT IT!!!!

If you are getting popping sounds from your 4760 and it is happening while in IE 6 try to do the follwing: (win xp only!)

Go into control panel

Open the Sounds and audio devices

Click the sounds tab

Go to the Internet Explorer section

Pick sound for all of the listed application

Give this configuration a name

Save

Reboot

Im trying this now and I want to see if this is working for other users. So far so good. Let's see if this works

I think I got IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Turn DOWN the wave balance in the Windows sound panel. Have done this and so far so good. Give this fix a try and see if it helps anyone out there.

i've had my 4760 about 3 weeks now and i too have noticed the occasional POP sound from the speakers. it is very infrequent, once i have booted so i can't even associate it with any particular activity yet, but it actually does seem to happen fairly regularly, if not everytime, right at boot up.

i guess there hasn't been any progress on this issue, but i do agree that so far, it is not a big deal to me. i don't have the subwoofer (got the tv tuner instead), i do have internal 802.11b.

tomorrow i am going to be doing some audio recording (vocal) for a soundtrack cd i am producing of my friends play. i will see if it presents a problem. i have noticed already that there is some bleed through of either HD or DVD drive sound spinning that comes through when recording, which is kinda annoying.

also, i've noticed some irregularity as far as using the Fn 5 and 6 keys or the tv tuner remote for volume. it seems that it sometimes (depending on the app) will only change the volume up to the max set in the master volume slider; but not the master volume itself.

Well I know this is kinda pulling a problem out of the graveyard here but i upgraded my sound drivers to the latest realtec drivers and it seems to be fixed. I will be testing all the rest of the problems i was having like mic imput soundling like a helicopter pilot sometimes the rest of the weekend and Ill get back to you guys.

I you have the bluetooth module then do a driver update from the Sager website. That finally fixed the problem I was having.

Good Luck
