Windows XP Screensaver Button

I remember in the old Windows 95/98 there was a button to start the screensaver that could be put on the desktop or in the start menu. Does anyone know if XP has something like that?

You can drag a shortcut of your favorite screensaver from the system32 directory out the desktop, then double-click on it when you want to run the screensaver. Is this what you are talking about?

Yeah that part worked but for some reason that screensaver is not password-protected. As soon as you move the mouse the desktop comes back. Do you know if there is a way to password protect that screensaver?

The screen saver in XP doesn't become protected until the timeout you set has passed. Manually starting the screen saver will not enforce the password until the timeout has gone by.

Do you know of any good ways to have just a button to lock up the computer in case I have to leave my dorm room for something and I want to make sure that the desktop is hidden? Something password-protected obviously.

Also, does anyone know of the best program to lock individual files and folders in XP Pro?

You can hit the key combo: windows key and then L

This will lock the computer.

You can't lock files/directories, but you can changer permission on who can access them if the files are on an NTFS partition. Just right click, then select properties, then go to the Security tab.
