AMD 64 bits/PM

Thread Starter
HI,

If a AMD Athlon 64 bits has MB on cache and a PM has 2MB, why does the 64 bits CPU is better for gaming and more powerfull?

What exactly doers the cache do?

Thanks,
Blacko

the Athlon 64 and the Pentium M are pretty comparable as far as gaming performance. You just don't see as many Pentium M based notebooks with high end graphics cards.

Because the Athlon 64 has a low-latency memory controller on-chip, and this makes very memory intensive applications like games run faster. It also has a faster and more efficient system bus (HyperTransport) making I/O (e.g. harddrives, graphics cards, etc) run faster too.

Cache is a small memory located on the CPU itself that is faster than the main memory (RAM).
