theorist the only way you could recuperate anything on that disk is not something YOU can do ...

You'd have to take the HD to recovery experts ... and that costs a shit load and alot of time

Check the manufacturer site as all the necessary driver should be available for download.

DON'T USE THE DRIVE!!!!!!!!!!! Call data recovery experts immediately. It is possible that you have already written over data with the format and reinstallation of windows.

http://www.ontrack.com

Call them.

alright gentlemen, just to update... i'm going to try this program called... getdataback. if that fails... i guess i will have to tell my boss. i may have to return my new inspiron 8600 now though if i am out of a job:/

Data recovery is generally calculated by the hour (at least where I'm from).

And it runs at pretty steep prices. For a simple job, it could run into the $700 to $1,000 range (total, not per hour).

For something like yours, depending on how badly the data's been overwritten, it could take many days.

I actually found recently I had some documents on an old hard drive that I lost in the process of moving to a new computer in January. But I've done this so far on the drive:
  • Formatted to empty
  • Installed XP Pro
  • Ran Norton Ghost files from OEM to install XP Home
  • Installed XP Pro
  • Partially installed Caldera Linux (just for fun but it didn't work)
  • Ran Norton Ghost files from OEM to install XP Home
  • Installed XP Pro to test SP2 RC2
  • Ran Norton Ghost files from OEM to install XP Home
  • Installed XP Pro to test SP2 Final
  • Installed XP MCE
  • Installed Longhorn demo - didn't work
  • Installed Longhorn demo - worked this time
  • Ran Norton Ghost files from OEM to install XP Home to test SP2
  • Ran Norton Ghost files from OEM to install XP Home to test SP2... 2nd round
  • Installed XP MCE - failed
  • Installed XP Tablet PC
  • Ran Norton Ghost files from OEM to install XP Home to test SP2... 3rd round

(I test software on different operating systems, actually I've got some stuff to test on windows 2000 so I'll be doing that next when I get a chance)

So there's no way I'd be able to recover anything from that now... It's only a 6 GB hard drive.

I'm going to have to look into that getdataback though... Sounds interesting.

Me or him? Me I lost some refrence materials I wrote up for one game I'm working on, as well as some fragments of source code as well. That'll teach me to make sure I check to see if I've gotten everything before I format...

(as far as the refrence materials I think what happened is I wrote those up in Word the one week my WordPerfect didn't work... I copied all my WordPerfect files over but didn't think there was anything important in the default Word folder (since I never use Word) so didn't copy that one... also lost a couple of 3D images I generated that went into that folder for some reason)

Ack didn't even remember about the source code until now.. Not sure but I may have copied that folder... I'll have to check because that's got some custom libraries I made up that I had other programs drawing from (no wonder I couldn't recompile when I tried to send a demo to one of my friends...) I hope I copied that one I don't even remember half of the code I did for that.
