MR9800 came yesterday. Install was super easy so I'm happy I got dell to credit the install. Dell has come along way on the internal work. My ole latitude use to be a bitch to work in, connectors in hard to reach places and what not. This thing is like a drunk sorioirity girl.

Total price paid. Ordered on 10/26, $270. Wouldnt you know that lower the price 3 days after, got to moves that inventory I suppose.

oh yeah....MR9800 rocks!!

I get the same message "Error. Resources files missing". I really cannot figure out why.

I made an bootable CD image on a desktop and booted it off the CD on my XPS. That's if anyone wants to reflash without a floppy drive.

When I try to run the winflash, it just keeps telling me that 'the computer needs to be restarted after making changes to your system', and the bios upgrade never happens. After restarting it just says the same thing after a pause, and the upgrade never happens... I can see Winflash.exe running in the background, but then it just pops up saying I have to restart to finish the changes to my system... And it just keeps coming back. :0P any ideas?

Hmm.. It won't run in safe mode either. Does it check the drivers you are currently using or something? (I'm using Omegas.) I can't use the stupid floppy version either because the idiots at Dell won't let me extract it and put it on a USB keydrive. (No floppy drive here.) :0P

Could somebody tell me how to flash my video card to the new bios setting?

As for the new video drivers, I was in the middle of playing Far Cry before updating and was using the previous ATI drivers and the difference has been really noticeable because now I can play with all high settings and It is as smooth as cream.

It seems that the automated installer has a problem (didn't work for me either).

I went into the folder where it was unzipped (by the installer) and ran the flash utility (.exe) manually, it restarted the comp and then did the bios update.

Hope this helps.

PS You may have to disable any applications which stop the registry boot sector from being modified (such as ad-aware etc)

I flashed to the new bios without any trouble. At first I was concerned with the missing resource message, but realized the extraction tool was just having a difficult time launching the appropriete executable. I made sure I was on AC power and launched the file manually from C:\dell\drivers\R87747 (the default directory). I used Winflash as opposed to winflash w/ no battery check. It will prompt you to restart and that is when the bios flash takes place. Everything worked fine after that.

I downloaded and installed the new ao4 bios a couple weeks ago. This whole flashing the bios is new to me. I downloaded and installed the AO4 bios with out any problems.( or maybe plenty, see below) Was there more I was suppost to do?

I'm also gonna grab the bios update for the 9800. I have the newest Omega drivers (4.10 ) installed an I'm wondering if they're compatable. What is the new bios suppost to do anyways?

After installing bios AO4 my system seems to be a little more tempramental than normal. The most annoying of which is that after my sreen saver times out and goes to a black screen it won't restore. I have to manually restart. The same happens when I close the screen exept when I pop it open again there is a cursor in the upper left hand corner but she won't respond. I'm also experiencing every thing freezing up. This has never happened before. It happens when say I double click my winamp short cut on the desktop open a webpage while winamp is loading then make sure my calender is correnct buy double clicking the time in the lower right hand corner. I have had a million processes running at the same time before with no problems. I don't think performing a few simple operations like the ones stated use enouph resources to lock every thing up. And I wait to see if the freeze thaws and it doesn't so i need to manually reboot again. And start up is a bit slower.
I just found out about the Dell Diagnostic utility while flipping through the manual looking for answers. I'm sure the people on this board can help me far more than this tool but does it work to solve simple but very red hot reeves under the finger nails glithes like the ones I got going on?
I thank you in advance for your much needed newbe help.

Mr Mojo,

Dell have released an A05 bios to address instability problems in A04 (I have no instability with the A05 bios)

Good Luck

Bob..

Thanks Bob.

I downloaded the and installed the new BIOS. I have not had a freezing as of yet.

Dell has many listed updates. It would be nice if they had a system like microsoft updates that let's one know of the updates not yet installed on your system rather than listing them all and having to remember which ones are installed and which ones are not.

I'm not sure yet what all this "flashing" the Bios is and it would be nice to be in the know.

It seem that the freezing of my system continues.
Today my wife was surfing the net and it just froze on her. The mouse icon could move freely but all the shortcuts on the desk top were gone. I tried hitting the windows button and crtl-alt-del and still nothing. Very annoying.
It still freezes when I open a couple different programs at the same time as well.
Any thoughts?

THNX!

I've got a 256Mb 9800 in my 9100... After reading this, I searched around for what the 256Mb problem was, but couldn't find much information at all.

What is the 256Mb issue? Does it affect much with the 256Mb cards?

Thanks,
Dan

pity that's for 9800 256megs
this is something i don't have but something i wanna have
post #36 of 42
There is a memory allocation bug in drivers older than the 8.07 betas that prevents full use of a 256 mb cards memory.

See I tried benchine before and after the bug fixes and it got me no increase in scores for 3dmark05....yet a lot of dekstop Radeon 9800s and X800s reported around a 300 point increase...so I am not sure. I mean I have the vdo card with 256 megs of ram and the darn drivers but mehhh....and also when I play Doom 3 and if I remove the Humus tweak which you r supposed to apparently with the memory bug fix driverset, my performance goes back to being sorta jerky the way it was before the Humus tweak so I am guessing I need to reinstall the game with updated ATI graphics drivers installed.....I dunno but whatever. I can play glitch free at 1024 without producing too much heat or oclocking or anything of the sort so I am happy....at max settings....not ultra...I am curious after I get my HL2 game if I will see an fps boost with the older and newer driversets from ATI hence the reason why I have not updated my drivers yet.....also I am waiting for Omegas to come out!!

Hi there,
any solution to the 'missing resources files' error with the bios upgrade yet? Can't run it manually or from the installer. Tried 'Run as...' from right click menu and deselecting 'protect my computer...' and it didn't work either. I have no shield that protects editing of the registry, just Avast antivirus. Glad if someone could help.

Where can I get the omega Drivers? From the ATI Site?
