mandrake on Battalion 101?

Thread Starter
I got this AMD64 lappy from Ibuypower. As people has found earlier, it won't accept Fedora Core 2, Suse doesn't support WXGA, so the only choice becomes mandrake 10.1 X86_64.

But after starts, it stalls at "starting netprofile". Anyone knows the problem?

Have you tried...

Disabling the network service to see if you can get past that message? Perhaps it's a problem with the nic driver or something along those lines. It'd at least let you elminiate that as a problem.

alright
as it starts it prompts you with the netprofile. do i disable it from there? and what command line is it?
So you do get to a prompt then? Or does it not boot at all?

it boots just fine, except it starts in netprofile mode

I just ordered a Battalion myself and I plan on installing Mandrake 10.1 on it too. It's going to be a few days (10-15 at least... :-( ) but I'll get back to you once I have played with it a little.

There are some threads on this forum that deal with running Linux on the WXGA screens. I doubt that's your issue, but it could be it. I wonder if it's a driver issue with the wireless card. I'll have to play with it some and get back to you. If you find a solution...post it! lol

Try this one thing first though-

At the bash prompt type-

service network stop

Then try starting X and see what happens.

i actually have an emachine M6805, but it's the same problem. i will try taking the wireless card out when i have some spare time, and install the system again.

if anybody knows how to get Linux installed on the Battalion S-Turbo, I'd be really interested to hear about it. I tried to install it about two months ago or so, and the installation of Suse I believe, froze halfway through writing my master boot record, and completely destroyed all the data on my PC, it works fine after fdisking, but it was a pain, if anybody has any success stories of 64 bit linux on one of them, please share it.
