Anyone know anything about macs or apples

Well about a month ago I dropped my friends Apple Powerbook G4, it worked perfect for a month, until today when he turned it on it would go into the desktop screen and it would freeze, it came to a point now where it wont load up to the desktop it just sits trying to load up. I have a feeling the hard drive crashed, but wondered if it was my fault.

On the bootup for an apple is there any buttons that I can push to go into a "safe mode" or some other way to boot it up besides just the power button.

At the mac store there is a dent in the side of his laptop probably where the hard drive is located. His comp is 5 months old so he can get a hard drive replaced under warranty but I doubt they will when they see that dent.

Anyone know how much labor should be for a replacement of a new hard drive, or any other tips to help me save money

***Disclaimer--I am not very experienced w/ Mac Just my 2 cents****

I was gonna suggest the hardware test CD, but then I remembered you have to boot it first, insert the CD then restart and Hold down "C" to boot from the CD.

The only other thing I can think of is to try to use it as a Firewire Target disk. Except to do this you need another Mac to attach it to. Provided you have another Mac and a firewire cable, you can connect the two, and when you power on the lappy hold down "T" on the Keyboard to make it a giant External Hard drive, then you should be able to poke around on it with the other Mac, maybe even run a disk checker utility to test the Hard drive.

I think I read about a similiar problem somewhere, I'll see if I can find a link.

The hard drive is shot, anyone have an idea if even with a dent this service repair shop called komputer kingdom will do the work under warranty anyways, since apple pays them for their labor?
