Have any one tried Linux with wxga or wsxga+ resolution on those widesceen laptop . should we edit Xfree to get it working ?

Does resolution like sga(800x600) and xga(1024x768) work on these widescreen laptop with linux

Most Live cd (knoppix, slax) use 1024x768 as default resolution .Did any one face a problem using these live cd ( like having to enter resolution manually to get it working)

what about linux driver for ATI 9700 and 855

Im running linux on a 15.4in wuxga and its working fine at its max res. Had to add a modeline to the xorg.conf to get it working tho.

If you have an intel graphics, you'll need the 855resolution patch. Not too hard, you run it each time you boot, add a modeline to your xorg.conf, and run the patch each time you reboot, X will run at 1280x800. If you have ATI, it's even easier- just add the modeline, and it should work automatically. At least, that's what I've gathered for ATI, I don't have an ATI WXGA screen to test =p

In live distros like knoppix ....ther's an option to specify resolution at startup by pressing F2...hav any tried giving " knoppix screen=1280x800 " did this work for any one??

With knoppix, you'll have to edit your xf86config to get the ATI to work with 1280x800- you need to add the modeline. Just doing knoppix screen=1280x800 probably won't work. If you're doing it on an intel 855 graphics card, you'd need the 855resolution patch saved somewhere accessible to knoppix, and also edit the modeline to get it to work.

Does the default normal resolution for knoppix (1024x768) work fine (thou a bit streached) on those widescreen cuz it would be hard on the move to manually edit modline every time we pop up live cd ...also most live cd's use 1024x768 by default and it would be easy to get it working without giving any input

Knoppix 3.6 booted just fine on my Dell 700m (which is 1280x800). Don't remember if it was a stretched screen or I had black bars.

I have the same problem with fedora core3. I own a acer TM 4002WLMI and have the 15.4wxga screen and an ati 9700. Can someone give me a direct guide on how to make it work in 1280x800. I tried to select the panel as beeing and LCD 1280x800 but the resoltutions that I can select after are only 4:3

That's someone's xorg.conf with 1280x800. Try using it, it should work.

Knoppix boots with a stretched 1024x768 on my computer, which is also a dell 700m.
