ALL that is as good as a single headphone driver as long as it is pouring into your ear. I see three mid/high range drivers and what appears to be a single low range driver. How is this 5.1 again?

I urge you not to fall for the surround crap with headphones. I have heard some of the most expensive ones (AKG Hearo 999 is in my personal collection) and none of them have impressed me. The AKG is passable but this is because of the amount of research they have with HRTFs which are used in the DSP.

I am sure, from your review, that you are happy with it - and I am not surprised. I have headphones that cost $1400.00 and I am still thrilled when I listen to my $30.00 Koss Porta Pro 2s

And Koss is amazing...I had the original Koss Portapro for nearly 2 years and then I sat on it All Koss headphone have a lifetime warranty so I sent it to them and 10 days later I had a brand new Koss Portapro 2 with a letter of apology stating that they coundnt fix the one I sent in so they sent me its replacement.

Needless to say - I am happy.

If you are mildly tech oriented can you open up the base unit and make a few pictures and email them to me?

I will order one of these units for myself, open it up and clear up all these issues once and for all.

A few bum lines from the website you linked me to :

Quote:
What is the benefit of a preamplifier? It is indispensable if your sound card doesn´t provide the accurate voltage to the mini-jack output.
Wrong...this depends on headphone impedance. Most commercially available headphones in consumer electronics stores and online retailers are 32 ohms nominal. These headphones need current...not voltage. The reviewer is misinformed about these technicalities.

But on other notes he is quite accurate and I am impressed that he wasnt impressed with the 5.1 headphones.

For the money you could have bought yourself a really high quality stereo headphone sans the gimmicky business.

Read this thread - I have posted extensively there and all those recommendations are still valid:

well i have the Sony's (MDR-V600) that i am more than happy with and i usually dont open things till they break lol so wait up on that one (im a high school student with a very small income so i treat everything like gold - hope you understand! lol)

i mean i just got these b/c they were cheap, i cant afford a speaker setup, and i dont want to wake my parents in the middle of the night - its mainly for games and movies - i use the sony's for music - and its just to add an extra level of engagement i guess? but yeah you're right they arent true 5.1 but they mimic it good enough for my needs lol

actually i saw these crazy $12,000 sennheisers on some website and supposedly you need a key to turn the amp on - i thought that was pretty funny

The Sennheiser Orpheus was, is and will be the best headphones of all time. Nothing comes close...I have the opportunity of picking up the headset (sans amp) for $7500.00....still twiddling my thumbs nervously

They sound better than ANY speaker system I have heard and I have heard some really REALLY expensive and well matched setups.

The V-600 is good...let me know when you are ready for an upgrade and check out the sticky thread in this section.
