I've cranked all the volume settings and still audio files get played a lot louder than dvd's. And I really want to hear the dvd's a lot louder. Any suggestions?

Try the WINDVD Patch after selecting your model. It is supposed to increase DVD volume.

That didn't make any difference but I've hooked it upto my stereo and the sound is fantastic. Its a bummer though for those times I don't have it hooked up to my stereo.

Are you sure you cranked all of the volume levels? I don't mean for that to sound condescending, I just know that those things are confusing. You have to get the master level up, then the individual audio type level up, then the actual program playing the dvd volume up, and you have to make sure if you have that audio control manager thing running (the one that comes with the drivers for the audio card), that it doesn't have any settings that are killing volume. When I play divx movies on here, I put the volume to half and I can hear it in the other room... lol, also, did you try different programs? RealOne plays dvds... Hope you can get it fixed up!

Hey Beebster
I'm pretty sure I've tried them all. I know I'm a little deaf but I didn't think it was that much. I've got a really good stereo so at the moment I'm satiated.
Another question though, it really gives me the ****s on explorer that my status bar keeps disappearing and I have to go to view-statuts bar to get it back. Any ideas on how I can fix that?
ps. when do you officially become a high priest of sagerdom?

One thing I noticed with my WinDVD installation, it defaulted to 'headphone' output in the sound config within WinDVD. Changing to 'speaker' output noticably increases the volume (and quality through the speakers).
Just my observation, hope it helps.

I tried mucking around with that setting.
Thanx for the input.

I'm running into the same issue on my 5670 - DVD is extremely quiet - everything else is plenty plenty loud . . . I'm not using windvd and the patch had no effect. I've Tried Zoomplayer, Windows Media Player with INtervideo DVD Codec, and Realplayer all with no difference . . . There's got to be some way to work this out - Do people have this same problem in linux??

I have pretty much the same problem with my Desktop and my Soundblaster Live 5.1. Crank up my Logitech Z640 speakers for DVDs and such. And get a real surprise if I forget to crank it down before loading up Battlefield or a game along those lines.

Never really cared to investigate why it happens, just quirky I suppose.

Also, the same seems to happen on the DVD player connected to my TV. Audio always LOW for DVD, but just fine for TV.

Never had the problem with my SB Live except when I didn't turn off 5.1 Surround sound with only stereo speakers - I've got my laptop set for stereo - make sure you sb live is configured appropriately for your speaker system otherwise it's going to be sending quite a bit of the audio channeling to speakers that don't exist . . .

Its set-up to use a 5.1 speaker set-up. I know, because it took me a while to find the setting to change it from stereo to the 5.1 set-up. (While = 5 minutes of tinkering with the settings after first installing).
