Windows XP Software?

Thread Starter
I was recently setting up a friend's new Gateway and noticed that there was no Windows disk with the system. She told me that Gateway now expects you to make your own recovery disk from the hard drive.

Does Dell do this as well? Wouldn't this mean that, unless I bought a new copy of Windows, there is no way to reformat and do a fresh install without all Dell's preloaded software?

Thanks a bunch,
S.

hi yuccamoth,

this is interesting. i received my gateway laptop in June and it came with the Windows XP CD. It came with a few other disks also, but to be honest, I didn't look at them, so I don't know what they are.

yeah sony started doing the same thing several months back....pretty stupid idea i think, bc if u don't save the stuff to disk and forget and need the disks they send them to u anyways. and no dell does not do this, they have disks for everything thats on ur computer

Dell includes a full copy of the operating system in addition to a recovery partition on the hard drive.
