There is no way a laptop is going to run it better than a 3 GHz desktop running a Radeon 9800 pro. Right now with a 6800GT it is "smooth as glass" with every setting under the sun, but no laptop is going to touch that currently. Sorry, I don't buy your claim when so many people with much better desktop systems have problems running Far Cry with everything turned on. I can buy decent performance, but not at all settings maxed out.
well, you can call the bullshit if you'd like but it still won't change the fact it runs perfectly smooth, and you're free not to believe me, but quite frankly what could i possibly benefit from making shit up, i have better things to do with my time

Well, Mine is no BS. With pretty much the same setup I can run doom3 stable on 800x600 on medium with 2x AA easy, 30 fps. Normally I don't run AA, so it works better when I'm actually playing. I can get high detail with 800x600 with 25 fps-30fps. However, start throwing alot of crap in and a big fire fight (just though of the imps and how much of a pun that is) and it will chop out a bit. It is a good system for gaming, I'm not lying about those hours I've played either, it will work that hard. Good manufacturing and excellent choices in hardware.

Because this is a 'forum', anyone is invited and everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Personally, I thinkt he slow down might be do to those heat issues I've seen, but I might be wrong. A 9800 with 256mb of ram should be considerablly faster then a 9700 128 mb, but It doesn't seem to be by some of the tests I saw. My personal opinion/experiences tell me alienware rules.
You keep mentioning this in multiple threads and everyone is going to keep telling you that your 'opinion' about performance between the AW and the XPS is not factual. Atleast in this thread you said, "but I might be wrong".

Ahhhh... But can you run 1024x768 on high without lag?

Well, this is why this is my opinion. The facts happened in front of me and unfortunately I didn't keep a recording of the ordeal. Just happen to catch a couple of guys at a computer shop that had them and they ran some comprisons. Not like I was taking down notes during this whole ordeal, It was pure friggin luck that happened in the first place because at the time I was truly torn on which one to order. Either way, I obviously can't show you so I know that won't be good enough. I guess you could say, if people wanted proven reviews, there is a review section...

The Sager 9860 is the answer to ALL of your problems...and I guarantee it will pretty much beat the crap out of anything AW offers as far as laptops are concerned...
just my .02

i run a 51m and I will give you one benchmark to show that you should buy it-

Doom 3, Ultra, everything on, 1280x1024...smooth as butter-

What video card do you have? Are you overclocking it?

The Laptops don't work good for gaming. They cant hold awesome graphics cards, only low-end ones. I prefer the desktop, even though its a lot bigger.
I still say that its worth it :P

I don't know if I would go that far, the only game I've found that will not run at 1600x1200 and full settings is Farcry, and it runs at 1280x1024 and full settings. Granted, I have yet to try Doom3. To say Laptops don't work good for gaming and can't hold an awesome gpu, is a rather naive statement. Now saying that a top of the line line laptop will not hold its own to a top of the line destop on some of the newer games to hit the market may be more realistic.

Jake, have you tweaked your doom 3 files a bit, because I see you are running a ATI 9700, and it has been proven constantly that running doom 3 stock doesn't work as well on ati as it does on nvidia. However, I also have seen some guys alter the doom 3 code to support ati better, significantly better. I was rather impressed. Seriously though, are you kidding or have you done something to the setup?

but they are so expensive

That is true, I built an Area 51 vs the 51m and I would get way more computer, but I like to be able to play in my lazy boy.

could you please specify what "smooth as butter" is, cause i´ve seen people claiming their games run smooth as butter when actually they are at 12 fps and everything looks pretty damn choppy to me.

its just a matter of opinion, as with my issue with benchmarking, scores are just...silly. If fps is fast enough to fool the eye, thats good enough (for me). Without turning on fps status displays in games, I for one cannot tell between ~40 fps and ~60 fps, so big woop. Benchmarking just gives gloating rights. Just play the game(s) and be content

just my opinion

I'm pretty much the same way, Finn - if it runs good, I'm happy. I'm not a "hardcore" gamer, though ... I just like running around with a sword.

I would agree, but automatic weapons are much better. In the words of Sean Connery in the Untouchables.

"Just like a " pocketwitch ", to bring a knife to a gun fight"

edit 1 - and I play Farcry on 1280x1024 full settings because 1600x1200 was choppy, if it is lagging, I can't tell. My computer 6 months ago was a 450mhz, So every game I've played looks incredible so far

Heh heh ... I would be bringing a two handed sword to a gun fight. Though guns can be fun too ... I'm playing World of Warcraft now, so I get to use both, and that makes me happy.
