got killed on adware

I got swarmed by ad ware yesterday and it's slowing down my sager big time. I got Winpatrol to alert me that it's trying to install and I choose to not let it install but the pop up keeps on coming.

I tried deleted it, it's called Webad.exe or something. I tried going through CMD to delete it, but it wont' allow me. Finally ad aware 6.0 locks up now and so does spybot.

What can i do to delete this bastard(s)?

you shouldn't visit porn sites dude!!

Anyway, what I always do is use SYSTEM RESTORE, restore it to the day before these 'adware' came onto your pc.

If it does it succesfully your PC is clean once again and your good as new, but you need to run ad-aware just to get rid of the ones that are hanging about on your PC.

Try using either winpatrol or task manager to kill the process then delete it.

When I was having this issue sombody in the dell forums pointed me to this website. Make sure you go to download.com and get the latest versions of ad-aware (i believe SE personal 1.5) and spybot search and destroy. Good luck. I ended up having to reformat.

Edit: And consider switching to mozilla firefox, opera, ect. Since I began using firefox, I have found absolutly no spyware of my computer.

I have a couple of my clients computers do the same thing !

download the installer for adaware and spybot and i like Computer associates new one,

reboot into safe mode, (hit f8 during startup)

Install and run adaware and spybot in safe mode

Then, get a registry cleaner and fix and errors the ad-ware might have caused (hopefully none )

Then run msconfig and make sure all the spyware and ad-ware are unchecked

This should solve your problem ! if it doesnt you can always

Exactly, I spent 4 hours doing these same steps a few days ago to clean up my sister n laws pc. MSconfig is your friend. use it to stop all the junk from loading in start up... run the adaware AND virus protections.. uninstall all unneccessary junk through add remove programs.. and that should fix your problem..

What is also a nice product that works great is Norton Go-Back that comes with Norton Systemworks. You can do a trial install and then tell the system to Go-Back where at time you started. It makes several Restore-points per day. In contrast to MS it does it if your lucky ones a day.

When system starts it gives you the option to goto the Go-Back menu and restore to a point in time. It saved my butt already twice yesterday. Because I downloaded a WinXP theme from ThemeXP.com and got alot of spam as a present as well. I thought Santa came early this year

Bronco, Ya GO BACK is, a okay program, but its like a cancel button a nuclear warhead, there are after effects , you''ll lose everything up till that last backup,

Try, fixing the problem manually and learning from your mistakes , then you wont have to worry about going back to a previous config,

Not flaming u or anything, ....LOL

After you fix it just keep adaware up to date and scan regulary!

AH, but I am using SpyWareBlaster, SpyBot, Norton Internet Security and Systemworks on the laptop but sometimes you have these products that are just to quick to stop and you do not expect from some sites that they include rubishware.

man this is a pain

yah i guess I gotta go easy on the porn sites, haha, well I wish it was as simple as going to porn sites, because I honestly havent' been going to any for about 6 months, (small kids hang around where I work).

Yah MS config is indeed my friend, I use it to disenable all the junk that I have running so I can play unreal.

I also got the latest adaware SE, and it found 600 processes. However, spybot died on me again. I'll have to go into safe mode. I have winpatrol and it has prevented the adware to install but the pop up keeps on coming.

Thanks guys for the tips.

make sure you run virus software..sometimes you need to run more then one program. I've had one program miss a virus that another one picked up..
