CPU compatability

Is it ok to try and switch out a cpu for notebooks? Also, is there a place where you can find out what socket type motherboard a notebook has? I'm trying to figure out which chips are interchangeable with each other.

Yeah you can swap them out but you must be sure the bios on your comp. motherboard can support cpu You can usually determine this from the manf tech. support site. You may have to update your bios. When you look for a chip it must be the same "package" as the original and op-voltages and bus speed the same you should be okay. you can find out all you ever wanted to know at:
www.support.intel.com/support/processors/procid/

They have utilities available that you can download to correctly identify your eisting processor and then you can look for a replacement and verify it's compatable config by looking it up on their spec finder. Check out ebay lots of good pulls are for sale there for fraction of new cost.
