Hiya
I finaaly received my 8600 today... I was scared about the WUXGA screen I ordered after reading reviews here, but I should say it looks amazing .... Installed my Nushield screen to add to the gloss Now I've gotto reformat it and install a million apps.... Its been only an hr since I've started using it Keyboard could have been a lot better but whoz complaining

Will keep ya posted ....

BTW -> What should I backup b4 I format the drive... I havent installed any of my own apps nor saved any docs ...

Can someone provide a link or something to the format process using partition magic plz

Thanks

If you are going to format, you'll lose everything... so backup what you need. If you haven't put anything on your computer, well, you probably don't have any files you will want to keep.

The FAQ has some pointers for formatting and also directs you to www.blackviper.com, which is an excellent resource for reformatting.

Its suppose to protect your screen. People said that its glossy to look at and makes the screen clearer and brighter.

Good info

Glad to hear you I8600 arrived in good shape. I am expecting mine today and I have found the experience others have had with any Inspiron a worth learning from.

Give a first impression review soon!

Have fun with the new 'puter.

Wow! Somebody who just bought an 8600! The 8600 is a great machine, and those are some nice specs. Would love to get completecare for mine.

Can I suggest you get an extra 512Mb or 1Gb Stick of RAM. I upgraded from 512Mb to 1Gb and it made a good difference (particularly in games). I can now run 2-3 Virtual PC windows (98SE, 2000, XP) at once (yeah, kind of a POC).
