Last time I wrote here it was asking for advice on what machine to go in for video editing and i was caught up between a Precision M60 and an Inspiron 8600 . Well here I am typing out this review on a M60 and I am so glad that I made that choice.
The machine is simple fantastic and runs like a dream and the graphic card does the trick and with the moderate specs it has -it does the job damn well. It is PentiumM 1.7 Ghz with 1GB RAM, 60Gb 7200 rpm drive, 128MB GoFX700 Video card and I got a 160GB Seagate external hard drive to provide extra space for the media files. The machine has a 15" screen but it runs at a 19200 X 1200 screen resolution which provides such a huge working area -which proves so much useful with the video editing software - gives ample room to have all my bins and folders open while having a nice big source/record monitor and the timeline open. Video editors will definitely appreciate the extra workspace especially when editing on a single screen machine.
The battery life s decent and gives about 3 and half hours for normal stuff and for video editing gives about an hour and half or so...the laptop doesn't get heated up quickly and even when it does the fan occasionally switches on and switches off after sometime - and it is silent too...the laptop itself gets slightly warm but not hot, which is a huge advantage as it saves burnt laps :-)
The only negative about the machine would be the price but since I got a really good deal on it I am a happy chappy and can't complain at all. Overall I am really pleased with the machine and I would highly recommend it to any editor looking for portability combined with power for location editing. and this machine will also appeal to engineers or designers or animators who use graphic intensive applications.
Hope that this review helps someone in making their choice.
