I purchased this Nook Color specifically because I was taking a very long trip to China and wanted to be able to read without carrying a ton of books. I also liked that it had email capability...
This is an awesome mouse with an excellent grip for a mid sized to large size hand. Right-handed, comfortable, trendy, upscale, red, responsive, functional, task oriented.
Overall A+++
Fantastic had this machine 6 months and can honestly say have had no bother with it. Plays games better than most desktops and keeps up with the rest which is outstanding for a...
btw, i figured out how to get over 3 hours of battery life out of my dv1040us. you can dim the screen way down to save alot of battery life. just to let everyone know
hey for some reason my dv1040us is currently at 590 mhz! i don't know why, i'm plugged in, without the battery even in the laptop. just to let you know.
It actually happened to me once I believe. But hasn't happened again. I can get around 3:30 hours to "close to 4 hours" of battery life by lowering the brightness on the LCD. By the way I am considering editing the part of the review where I state that the DV1040 is pretty solid. Actully after some use I have noticed that the Chassis DOES flex a lot. The upper AND LOWER part. It "creaks" a lot also. The X1000 and zt3000 are much better built. Actually the whole HP line is better built that DV1040. The DV1040 is definately the least or one of the least SOLID notebooks on HP's line. It is still a nice laptop but I am not very pleased with all the "skeaks" it makes when I pick it up and move it around. Especially when open.
Oh by the way TWOODCC the RAM is pc2100 @ 266mhz. You can put 333mhz in there but I am not sure if it will run at 333mhz.
yeah, i can tell it's not the most solid notebook out there, but after carrying it to class everyday, i'm still pleased with mine. to me it's not that big of a deal, since i'm going to take care of my product.
thanks about the RAM, so i can put 333mhz in there. which should i do? would you put 333mhz in there?
XP service pack 2 is uspposed to fix the P-M throttling issue. This is also a common problem on Sager 3790s not running XP SP2. Double check the power settings in your DV1000's BIOS and make sure you have SP2 installed.
Is there anyway to just order the "HP dv1000 Remote Control" without the laptop? I have a Gateway M505XL with the Infrared in front. I assume it will work on my laptop as well if it does come with the software. Does any know how I can purchase this "HP dv1000 Remote Control " alone?
Amazing how few widescreens there are in the sweetspot between 12 and 15". If not for the crappy vert viewing angle, I'd be really excited about the dv1000. Alas.

i don't use my remote. if you can't find a way to buy it by itself, i might sell you mine. i'm not sure if i will or not, since i've been going through a nightmare trying to sell my other laptop.
I thought one of the reasons for the quick play features is that it extends the battery life if you only want to watch a DVD with out having to boot up Windows and have a whole bunch of other stuff running in the background.
Can you do a battery rundown test watching a DVD using the quick play feature and watching a DVD with Windows booted? I'd like to see what the diffrence in battery times are.
Ok, anyone with the "HP dv1000 Remote Control"? I am willing to purchase the item for $50. Reasonable price?
i'll think about it. i haven't even opened mine. i guess i should see what it does before i sell it, if i do sell it. if you find someone else with one, go ahead and get their's
The REMOTE CONTROL is available thru www.HP.com as an accesory. It is probably available elsewhere if you look. It will run you around $15 with shipping.
I was thinking of picking this notebook up at a local CC (considering the 200 bucks in rebates). But had a few questions for you guys:
I noticed on the HP site they offer 4 different type of wireless opotions.
Intel2200 b/g with and without Bluetooth
Broadcom 54g with Bluetooth
Broadcom 54g with Speedboost
What comes 'standard' with the model in stores?
What is a better card the Intel 2200 b/g or the Broadcom 54g card?
I do currently have a Linksys 54G wireless router that supports the Speedboost. Does sppedboost really work and will I notice it in my house from one or two floors above the router.
i have the dv1040us...i think you can look that up on the HP website and it'll tell you exactly what it has. or if you can tell me how i can find out what i have, i'll try to find out for you
I'm just wondering if you guys had tried "Speedswitch XP." I use that with my HP zt3000 and it shows current speed and allows you to tweak some settings. It works very well and you can get it from http://www.diefer.de/speedswitchxp/index.html. Give it a try and maybe it will help. Good luck!
