17" laptop with pcie

I was told by alienware they will have a 17" laptop with pci express in q1 of next year. Will have dual channel and thats all I know

17" for a laptop is too much, 15" is so far enough.

No one at alienware knows...to try to give out info saying 1st quater of next year...thats BS

NO ONE KNOWS! and even if they tell you its just spculation, we've been through this 1001 times...unless you hear it from the pres. of the company I wouldn't invest to much heart in it...

for the record 16 rocks! all standard screen sizes (1600x1200, 1280x1024 (where I play doom3), 1024x768, etc.

The 15 is also nice

17 would require them to change the form factor, which may or may not happen, but I don't think AW wants to make something that damn big-

I think a 17in screen for a laptop is overkill. I think 16.1 in is big enough... otherwise it kind of destroys the idea of "mobile" PC or laptop. I would love to see the PCI-E though. Thats going to change the laptop world imensly...

Yeah, the 15.4 in is good enough for me. I love it, just wish it did have those damn knicks in it...

well considering its a desktop replacement and not really a laptop then 17 inchs is good. its not like you play doom 3 in the park or something....

I would believe that Alienware has a 17" PCI-E coming out, in fact they better or they will be way behind. Everyother company is releasing one so there must be a demand for them. Sager already has released their 17" PCI-E notebook which means all the other Clevo based OEMs will release soon aswell. The new Dell XPS2 will most likely have PCI-E and a 17" also. Heck, even HP is slated to release their ZD8000 in mid December which also is a 17" PCI-E. Also, these notebooks are for gaming and games are better on bigger screens. You have already sacrificed mobility to the battery requirements of a desktop processor, why not have a bigger screen which only extends the length by an inch or so?

Hmm, why not buying a 17" laptop ??

Probably cause it's ugly and laptop is usefull when it's small.

I don't want to rent a truck for moving my laptop

you guys are so sensitive about size and looks. if you want a small portable pc that still looks 'good' just get a sentia.

I'm sitting here with an old Powerbook G4 and the updated one. Both 17" Titanium cased beauties and both of which have crisp, sweet, and sharp wide screens. Now saying a 17" G4 is ugly and isn't usefull... Heh. Well that ain't the truth.

I mean, the babies are only 6.9 lbs...

Does anyone know if they will be using the Nvidia MXM graphics chip? Most of you probably haven't heard of it but all you have to do is switch out the chip and put a better one in and you will have better graphics without replacing the whole card.

I agree, I saw a Compaq Acer the other week with a 17" and it was overkill. The laptop itself was like huge.

we've had numerous posts about MXM and also Axiom (ATi's solution).

No one knows what any ODM is using yet...check the Sager Review forums at 9est...Adam is releasing a review of the new Sager laptop.
