my wsxga screen seems to be grainy , any ideas, its at 1680 by 1050 and looks worse at 1280 by 960, any thoughts?

Well,it looks worse at 1280*960 because that is not the screen's native resolution. Your screen has 1680 physical pixels per horiziontal line and 1050 physical pixels per vertical line. When you switch to a lower resolution, the screen is dithering to create the illusion that there are 1280*960 pixels on the screen. This creates a blurry image. YOur screen will look the sharpest at it's native resolution of 1680*1050.

Is that the problem? or is it something else? is it colors? could your color setting be too low, like at 256 or 16bit?

no the settings are highest color and not 256. just kinda grainy and dvd are not good at all. you can come fix it, Blacksburg is only like 6 hours from here,(Va Beach). when i did a system restore( after 24 hour)s of ownership because the wireless card was giving me a error, the system was set to a very low resolution but checking the settings everything was the same 1280 rez, highest color. i even ran praxis free calibration program (manaul0 but that didnt help alot., Bill
