Thread Starter
Hi ho!,

i'm new to this forum, and i'm happy i found it, it seems there's tons of knowhow about the lappy's world. I got several questions:

What are the differences between the Acer Travelmate 4500WLMI and the 4001WLMI ?

Someone got a Acer TRAVELMATE 3201XMI ? i'm thinking in to buy this laptop? it's the case in aluminium or it's pure plastic ?

It's better Asus or Acer for a laptop?

Lates,
Acer 4501wlmi has windows xp pro, 4001 has only home edition... 4501 has flashcard etc reader, 4001 has only pcima.

Now that acer has got 4502 in market.. so there is diffenrense in prosessor too.. 4001 has 1,5GHZ, 4502 has 1,6 GHZ

Main difference between the 4000 and 4500 seris is the graphics card, the 4000 series uses intel extremeGraphics 2 while the 4500 series uses ATI MR9700.

The 3201 is a nice little laptop but the case is plastic, played with one for a while and it feels pretty solid though. Search the forum as quite a few people have it.

Thing I like about Acer I just bought a old model of theres a basic Acer Aspire 1355lc laptop and it suits me perfectly for what I need on the move, and I love the thing beautiful to use online.

Buy Acer I cannot fault this one and if there basic ones are like this then the top line ones must be good.

I was also considering an acer 4502lmi. My only concern is, newegg my favorite online site lists it as having integrated graphics instead of the 9700? Is this a misprint on newegg's part or does acer actually make 4502's without the 9700?

Well itz not that way, i thing......Acer spec varies from country to country...but from so far wat i hav seen is..

suffix LCi stand for --Intel gpu
LMI stand for-- ATI gpu

ie 4000lci --- intel
4000lmi --- ATi

Except for Europe... (both lci and lmi hav ATI GPU)

As far 4050 is concered the only difference i could figure out in the spec was....it didnt have ...Curve in the keyboard(Some kind of Ergo)
also it comes with 2 battery option ie ( 4 celled 3hours OR 8 celled 5 hours)

4501 not available any more except some online store...but 4502 and 4503 are up but they also have mixed config (intel and ATI gpu)

That's bogus. C stands for Combo DVD/CD-RW and M for Multi-DVD-RW.

On the other thing you are right, though. You can't tell by model number which one has ATI MR9700 and which one not. Just looked at 4500 models: some have IEG2 and some MR9700.

There is an other important difference depending on how you use the laptop. The 4500 series has a 100pin port for a port replicator! 4000s dont have that. My 4502 WMLi also has a ATI 9700 with dedicated ram. I can only recommend this notebook even I just use it for 2 weeks by now.

And as far as I know the cpu is socketed so that you can upgrade it with a Pentium M with 2 GHz if you want.

Guys, it does not seem that all 4502s have ati 9700 cards. Look acer.ca:

All of them have integerated graphics cards.

Yeah. The W-model (4501) seems to be the only one with ATI MR 9700.

And the you will have to buy the port replicator seperatly...it would cost around $100 or more( better to buy an USB port replicator around $50)

The other extra feature that 4500 has ....

3 in one card readear
Acer Mulitbay( you can replace cdrom with battery or other hdd)

Just to clarify about the graphics card, acer emailed me and said the 4502lmi does NOT have a graphics card, only the 4501wlmi. I guess the 'w' is what makes the difference.

I thing the W-- stands for wide screen , every widescreen acer i have seen starts with W.

As for the M and C ...tommi is correct ( reffer above post)

Wait, so the 4502LMI has Intel Integrated graphics?

I was thinking about purchasing the 4502LMI from Newegg, but they list it as only having the integrated graphics. Why does the specs vary from site to site? Some say that the 4502LMI has a 9700 Pro, while others say integrated. Some say it has a dual layer DVD burner, others say not.. this is getting frustrating.

Aren't there official specs ANYWHERE?

Any help would be appreciated..
