mini-mini-mini howto for updating a Slimtype/LiteOn SOSW825S to a DVD Dual Layer burner with download links
If you happen to have a Slimtype (actually LiteOn) SOSW825S DVD burner, and your burner doesn't support Dual Layer yet, here's a way how you can turn it into a Dual Layer burner.
Before you apply this new firmware, triple-check the following:
- You have a Slimtype/LiteOn SOSW825S DVD burner
- You have an other firmware version than PS01.
- Close all programs that may need to access the DVD drive, and make sure there is no disc in.
note: The firmware you are about to apply is older than what you probably had.
It seems like LiteOn tested with the DualLayer function, and decided to take it out for whatever reason.
But no worries, many people have already reverted back to the PS01 firmware with success, and with a working DVD burner with no stability issues at all, and .... Dual Layer works!

Everything on your own risk. Use common sense. etc etc.
The old firmware is from my (back then still) factory-default DVD burner.
It might be handy if you need to do a rollback to the old firmware.
Although I would advise you to make a backup of your current firmware prior to flashing.
p.s.
I have sucessfully applied this to my own Acer TravelMate 4001WLMi.
FINAL NOTE: YOU *WILL* LOSE YOUR WARRANTY IF YOU APPLY THIS FIRMWARE FLASH
